The purpose of self inquiry is to realize the selfless nature of "things". Mind activity is just mind activity empty of any-thing or "self" driving it. It is memory activity giving rise to false imagination, false reasoning, and false discrimination. Mind construct is a construct of the mind basically, the discriminating intellect that gives birth to dualistic thinking. Existence (being) or non existence (non being),names, concepts, ideas and beliefs, give rise to the notion of the existent/non existent nature of form and/or unborn "selfhood" to "things". Which are inherently empty and without any nature of selfhood. When we come to nothing in self inquiry, it is to realize the emptiness, of the notion of individual selfhood in all things. If there is an investigation/inquiry into the who or what that is inquiring "who/what am I", it is seen that, that too is empty of selfhood The belief that there is still 'self" or "selfhood" related to the nature/activity of the mind, keeps the method of self inquiry going. There is still attachment in the belief of a self. This is all part and parcel of the journey. Where one is at a particular stage, is where they are. Even knowing there is no self through the practice of inquiry will not, all at once, completely stop the habit of attaching to mind activity. The depth of the impressions imprinted on memory and that is driving the activity, are (to use a quote from Buddhism) "fathomless" and/or "beginningless". To this end, one should realize that mind habit and activity will continue, regulated or non regulated. Knowing there is no-thing, no self/individual, driving it's behavior, one can practice "turning away". Stop giving importance to it's activity and the habit of attachment. Allow without discriminating, grasping. The returning of attention to the state of non-attachment or Vairagya. -

@zoey101 You're doing quite well, imo. There's quite a bit of intuitive insight in your post above. Don't be too quick to discount your own self knowledge. -
Good thing you're not a person,eh?

The why questions of consciousness can't be truthfully answered. This is the problem with conceptualizing/imagining what the reality is,rather than realizing it experientially, which is the only way to know it. If it comes into reality for you, there would not be such questions. The mind could think about this unendingly and never come to a conclusion, but once the reality is realized all questions of what it is or could be, end. It can be entertaining to theorize anything about consciousness, but that's just playing around. The only way to know is to take the jump. Probably not what you want to hear, but that's the truth. Anything other than that is just a story. -

Saying you are awareness, and being that awareness are very different. Realizing you are that obliterates any delusion or question ever had of being anything other than that. There's no longer a choice of deciding to be anything different. It destroys illusion. After the realization, you can choose to play the role of identity for practical purposes, but always knowing you are not the character identity. You can also go off into seclusion, limiting social contact to an "only if/when needed" basis. -

The body identity. When you,as the individual "I", are awake, you experience the world through the body/mind and 5 senses, taste, touch, smell, hearing, seeing. Contracted consciousness is consciousness or Self, forgetting it is the formless infinite and wrongly identifying itself to be a form, the finite body (5 senses)/mind (thoughts/beliefs). It's what is commonly referred to as the "ego identity". The egoic identity is,in reality, just a thought/belief. In deep sleep, thoughts cease, and therefore the "I am an individual, separate self made of form" thought/belief,also ceases. Consciousness or Self,no longer identifies itself with the belief it is a body/mind,and returns to it's original unbounded, unidentified, formless nature. Upon arising from deep sleep,it resumes misidentifying itself as a form again. You are the unbounded, infinite consciousness, but you have not realized this, and therefore repeat the same mis-identification over and over. This is the wheel of samsara. Enlightenment is experientially realizing "I'm not the body or the mind, but in reality, infinite consciousness". One no longer identifies as an individual body/mind. When that conditioning has permanently dissolved, one abides as the formless, infinite Self. The body carries on,but there is no longer the recognition of it as being "me". Being "In the world, but not of it." -

The blissful joy of no-self. Stated here "I was still driving but it was not thinking about driving." No thinker,no driver,no doer. Just being. -

In my own experiences of oneness,it is an experiencing of overwhelming divine love that brings tears. A causeless love where there is no self and no other. An overwhelming experience that "all is this, there is no other." It is truly indescribable in every sense of the word,. When the heart opens up it is a very powerful thing. There is no "I,you,me" being one with something else. There is only this One,and all is this. When the individual "I" drops, the division between a "self" and an "other",also drops. All is One. -

A good question to inquire is "in what, does that which is experienced, appear?' For ex. In what does the experience of seeing appear? in what does the experience of sensation appear? in what does the experience of hearing appear? in what does the experience of emotion appear? Etc,etc.,. -
Good video. A logical breakdown of Adi Sankara's "Drg Drsya Viveka". WISDOM of the SEER and the SEEN.

Same here. Upon awakening there was a straight thrust into the absolute with no stages, aside from the practices I had been doing up to that time. Samahdi is just a hindu term given to that object-less aware state where one recognizes their true nature of being the one reality, pure awareness, spirit, brahman etc., Awakening without permanent abiding would be nirvikalpa samahdi. It lasts anywhere from hours to weeks, but the person does not stay there permanently and still has some work to do/karma to deal with. This is where I'm at,and the reason I still do practices. Progress is related to how long one is in the pure (sahaja) abiding "whole" state. They are abiding states of oneness. Sahaja samahdi is the permanent enlightenment, not relegated to, nor can be called a state, where there's no longer any coming or going. All residual karma has been purified. -

The whole mistake was making the conclusion that life was supposed to have a purpose. This is the conditioning that you are trying to wake up from. Only the ego needs a purpose. Once that goes, you're free to do whatever. If that means doing nothing then that is what you will do. But you won't lose sleep over it. -

Calling it spirituality is worse than calling it brahman or whatever. If it were called what it actually is, Reality, more people might invest some time to see what it's about. As soon as you mention spiritual to the regular Joe,he's already formed an opinion. Reality is accessible to 750 billion people. -

It wouldn't be Truth if everyone who realized didn't come to the same conclusion. It would just be another religion to fight over. Call it what you will, but what is has always been what is.. And it will always be what is. It's the absolute eternal. -

Mind is no match for the heart. When the imagined self of the mind, meets the true Self of the heart,it sees the end of it's existence. -

It only exists, and this applies to all objects including thought, because you believe it does. That's ok,this is your current level of perception for now. Since you believe it exists you apply a self derived name,a concept to it. When a name is given, it further deepens the belief in it's existence. To know what is true, our real nature, or true "I", we have to break the identification with the psychological mind and thoughts. In the absence of thought we can be what we truly are. -

Nah,this wasn't logic at work, lol. Apologies. It was a feeble attempt at bad humor. However, many people do turn to spirituality to relieve suffering. The Buddha's primary motivation to seek enlightenment was to end the suffering he and the many others that were also having to endure suffering. To anyone in a suffering state, attaining the bliss and joy that enlightenment promises,is one hell of incentive to consider taking on the endeavor. -

Oh yeah. What is perceived as true in reality will be true for anyone sharing that same reality. There's only one reality right? In reality there is no doer, and this is a shared truth for anyone who experiences that same reality. This would be completely nuts to anyone not sharing this reality.
