Time for self reflection
I was thinking about the principles of karma today and I found that this is what karma means to me.
Me and my boyfriend were arguing yesterday about karma and he said to me that "what will you say to a mom who has a disabled child, will you say it's her karma that she is suffering, that's why I don't believe in it."
In my opinion he is having a false idea of what karma means.
The whole thing that karma means that you're suffering because you did something bad is ridiculous and used by people to bully or demonize others.
I think that the principle of karma is very different than what's the society tries to make of it.
To me karma means the following :
¥¥. to be authentic and true to oneself. No self deception. No pretending.
¥¥ that you'll pay for your sins. You can't get away with something that you did which was wrong or immoral.
¥¥ That Truth will always triumph. It will win. Maybe not in the moment but eventually no matter how much you hide truth will be out. It will get exposed. Your need to mask the truth is selfishness and you can't win against truth. It's your delusion that makes you feel that you are winning.
¥¥ honesty is the best policy and honesty is rewarded by the universe.
¥¥ if you leave the garden as it is, it will flourish in its way, maybe not in the best way but it will take its natural course if you leave it be, you let it be, you give it freedom, you don't impose your will on it. Thus you're neutral to it, but this is not a bad strategy. It still works.
¥¥ now you decide to let the garden grow your way, that is you impose your will on it, you decide and choose and you force for things to happen so that you can profit, you are being selfish without realizing that you are selfish, your extreme desire to turn things your way causes the garden to perish or get destroyed for your profit. Karma means that you can't impose your will on the universe. It will backfire.
¥¥. Now you decide to help the garden grow better but without any intention for profit or any motive but with a selfless purpose to give, assist, help, and your actions are stemming from selflessness, empathy and kindness and purity and generosity and benevolence. Just to give with no expectation. This will cause the garden to flourish and do better. And you'll get rewarded in the most unexpected ways. Karma means that your kindness will not go in vain, it will be rewarded and these rewards will be beautiful, as beautiful as your kind qualities.
¥¥ having a clear conscience. Knowing that you never have an ulterior motive.. No bad intentions or no motives. You have a pure heart. Just pure good honest intentions. No guilt. No motive, no tricks, no strategies, no manipulations, no scheming, no tactics, no diplomacy, no politics. Just frank open honest pure good intention. Karma rewards a clear conscience by defending its virtuosity.
¥¥ karma means the will of the universe will eventually win. And you can't help it. You can't stop it. You better accept reality and by not accepting the inevitable you're only making it harder for yourself. So learn to accept the will of the universe, the flow of nature. Don't fight it.
¥ ¥ that good intentions will always bring a good outcome and bad intentions will always lead to a bad outcome or failure.
¥¥ with your selfishness you'll never succeed or flourish, you'll never accomplish anything good, in fact it will always result in failure.
Beautiful painting of Krishna.
