Leo Gura replied to Adam M's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God @Adam M Yes, there are many versions of Buddhism. But in my mind I like to think of Buddhism in its purest form, the form that was taught around the Buddha's time. Other, more flowery versions of Buddhism evolved much later and I have not studied all those. At some point you gotta stop studying all the niggly spiritual schools and just go awaken. The goal here is not to become a scholar of religion.

Leo Gura replied to iboughtleosbooklist's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God Yes, it's completely pointless. I have nothing else to do. Anything you do in life will be completely pointless. So enjoy it for its own sake or don't do it. I enjoy posting on the forum, which is why I do it. It helps me clarify my thoughts and it makes me feel more socially connected. Otherwise I would feel all alone and that's not fun. I am in a dream in order to experience dreaming. There's no other game in town other than to stop dreaming -- which I don't want to do because I enjoy my dream. It's like I am playing a video game and you come into the room and ask me, "Why are you doing this?" Yes, everything is constructed from the NOW because NOW is all there is. The past and future are imaginary and couched in the NOW.

He definitively has this meta-narrative going (which smacks of conspiracy) that elites are using the little guy as "batteries in the Matrix". I really don't like this meta-narrative because it's fundamentally not how society works -- although at the same time there is some truth to it. But it's a very partial truth. Here's an example of where Owen goes way too much in the conspiracy narrative: Unfortunately he is inadvertently brainwashing his audience into believing this kind of stuff. The notion that Twitter or the internet used to be such a good place back in 2015 is absurd. Twitter was a toxic cesspool back then but Owen ignores such basic facts. Moderation has not made Twitter worse. And the moderation was not done by "elites" to keep the little guy down. It was done because it was being exploited for devilry by both little actors and giant actors like foreign governments. The are fundamental biases within pickup advice. And even when Owen is giving his more philosophical takes which don't have anything to do with pickup, he still can't shed those biases. That's how deep those biases run. And almost no one in the pickup community who follows Owen will sense that until years after they have been indoctrinated with his biases. It's very subtle. It requires a high level of development and consciousness to see it.

	That sums it up beauitfully.

What isn't understood by free speech absolutists is that to have truly robust free speech the public square must feel safe enough to most people such that they feel safe to express their ideas. When trolls and such are given free reign this actually reduces effective speech because the normal sane moderate people don't feel safe or good enough to express themselves. The public square cannot allow shitslingers or all the best people will leave. This is the paradox of freedom. What people really want is not pure freedom but freedom that is useful, productive, and healthy. Effective freedom. And of course what you consider "useful" and "healthy" is relative. A neo-Nazi will feel his speech is useful and healthy. But what must happen is the neo-Nazi gets overpowered. It isn't fair from the neo-Nazi's POV. But it creates a better society.

This is so problematic because we cannot have one private overlord of the entire education system.

Twitter isn't used by normal little folks, Twitter is mostly a platform for influencers, celeberities, and breaking news. So while it's not a big userbase it's a userbase of all the most influential people. So it has great import in society even though most normies never use it.

Owen isn't doing the conspiracy narrative for the money, it's because his life's work and RSD was basically canceled by the MeToo crackdown that platforms did back around 2016. It's obvious this affected and hurt him deeply so he takes it personally and needs some way to explain it to himself. He doesn't like platform moderation because he wants to put out very edgy content. But he doesn't realize how such content hurt women. So it's not that he was being censored for his ideas, the immaturity and sexism of pickup simply hurt too many women and so there was a backlash. This is not elites controlling him. This is just the natural consequence of being insensitive with what you say. Saying edgy things hurts people. Promoting hardcore pickup also hurts people. Owen doesn't acknowledge this enough. In general Owen is an intense, edgy, and hardcore guy. He loves to challenge mainstream norms and lifestyle. So it makes perfect sense for him to be deeply opposed to things designed to protect the masses. He likes to live more dangerously and aggressively. That's his bias. He does appreciate the function of those mainstream safeguards nor the wisdom of some important mainstream ideas like anti-sexism, anti-promiscuity, and anti objectification of women. There are deep problems within the pickup lifestyle which Owen seems to be in denial about. Mainstream culture is actually right about that. But needs to deny that to keep doing what he is doing.

Owen's got his heart in the right place. Honestly he could have retired a long time ago. He genuinely loves helping people. He's not doing it for the money.

Leo Gura replied to iboughtleosbooklist's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God You will if you awaken deep enough.

Leo Gura replied to IAmReallyImportant's topic in Society, Politics, Government, Environment, Current Events I watched the whole video.

It is promising that Jack is involved. However, moderation will have to exist for Twitter to be healthy. And it will have to be significant moderation of hate speech and misinformation. There is no way that hate speech and misinformation will just police itself. No way. Jack and Musk are not magicians. A healthy online forum only comes with proper policing.

Leo Gura replied to iboughtleosbooklist's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God Las Vegas only exists in your present mind. Your mind is the mind of God. For example, during my deepest awakenings I would become conscious that Hitler, Albert Einstein, all my ex girlfriends, my parents, and all my memories are figments of my current Mind. In other words, I create them RIGHT NOW. This is the mindfuck to end all mindfucks. When you reach this deep you will not believe it is possible. This is true awakening. Accepting it is the hardest part. Every fiber of your being will refuse to accept it. You do not want to accept this degree of aloneness. You are going to scramble to invent some "other" to comfort you, and so you will fall back into the dream as a little self. You are not ready to accept that your Mind constructs EVERYTHING.

I understand that but it's too much. I don't need someone yelling at me for 1hr+ in order to get the information. It actually hurts my ability to listen because it's over-stimulating.

Leo Gura replied to IAmReallyImportant's topic in Society, Politics, Government, Environment, Current Events He looks like a hero even in your report. He's not "staging himself", he's fighting a fucking war with Russia. He's President. He's not supposed to be running around shooting Russians with a rifle.

If you want to grow, stop paying women for sex and learn to attract them naturally.

He's pretty obnoxious to listen to comfortably. I like his old chill style way better. But his ideas are still good. A revolution does not solve serious problems, it's mostly just useless drama. We don't need a revolution, we need competent leadership and governance. We can't solve our problems by flailing our arms around.

I've gone fairly long time without jerking off. It doesn't give me more energy, just makes me stupidly horny.

Leo Gura replied to iboughtleosbooklist's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God There isn't a how. It's 100% direct. A fork is a fork. That is the how. A fork is forking. A knife is knifing. A rock is rocking. Etc. You could say that. The Matthew self is part of the arising content.

Leo Gura replied to IAmReallyImportant's topic in Society, Politics, Government, Environment, Current Events Manipulated by mass media? There is nothing damning in that video. It's just a basic recounting of him which you can find in mass media if you bother to know all those details. Nothingburger. Zelensky rose to the occasion and outperformed all expectations in a war that everyone thought he would lose. If that's not great leadership then what is?

But that's exactly what current Twitter moderation is like. It pisses off mostly the extreme right and left. People in the middle 80% are not tripping over Twitter's guidelines. So this makes no sense. Where are the problematic cases of Twitter censorship? This is the real question for Musk.
-
It's a big open question how much of Twitter will actually be changed. It may not get much change.

Leo Gura replied to IamYou's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God You're not getting it. You are constructing reality. There is nothing against which to compare or ground the distinctions you create iin, other than more distinctions you create.
