Being Your Own Worst Critic

4 posts in this topic

I'm a rapper/singer and I want to be able to listen to my own music as many times over as I want and stop becoming overly critical of it. What are the best ways of coping with this habit or completely freeing myself of it?

This is a good topic since I am working through my LP in music. I would highlight what I like about my music and ask someone who you trust to give you their honest musical opinion to point out what areas of your music sticks to them the most. Get some other perspectives other than your own about your own work.

I think you should do your best on one project (song) and write down what you could improve and use that for your next song, and the next and repeat this process. Also I recommend a book called Mastery by George Leonard, goes into depth about being on the plateau (where growth and skills aren't developing) and mastering or (becoming world class) at what you do.
