Ultimate musical improvisation/creativity

Shawn has such a laid back and easy-listening style even though he is probably the most technically proficient player the world has ever seen. It's like his technical proficiency translates to everything sounding so easy and feelgood, everything is just a joy, no neurotic trying to be something or pushing oneself up against a boundary, just pure effortless expression of one's being and feeling of inspiration. An irresistible beam of creative energy, piercing any imagined boundary in its path.

Imagine a person walking a tightrope. You see them struggle to keep balance, you see them walking slowly, tensing their muscles, straining their face, breathing laboriously and sometimes falling and getting up again. Then you look at Shawn: he is flying. That's the kind of resourcefulness, stability and depth, the size of the technical reservoir, underlying his playing. Just levitating through every expression.

There are two levels of dealing with a retard. At level 1, you mistake their retardation for your own, thinking it's your inability to understand them (you think it's on you that you don't understand them so you're the one who feels like a retard). At level 2, you clearly see that they are retarded and that you wouldn't be able to understand them because they are retarded.

Level 1 usually means you're a bit retarded yourself (for whatever reason, transient or stable), level 2 means you're less retarded and can view retardation from a greater perspective, not being hypnotized by it as much.

I post a lot about virtuosity (sheer technical skill), but on the other "side" you have people who are very into songwriting and creating a certain refined sound perhaps by chasing an internal vision of what they want to see.

A band that has recently stood out to me there is Sybreed. Think Krautrock, industrial, Rammstein, with prog and djent elements, and then just this soulfulness that is hard to pin down but it's just there, pure clear inspiration.

Another band like this is Cynic (similarly ecclectic but still highly visionary and intuitively attuned; in fact I know of no other band that sounds like Cynic even in terms of the genre, not just the visionary signature).
