Changing Email on the Forum

Hi guys, I don't know if any of you know exactly what happens if you change your internal email address in your profile, it says your account will be reset, does that mean that I loose all of history on here entirely (conversations, posts, followed members, private messages) etc...or is it safe too do? I am changing my email address at the moment and I want to update my profile on here.
