Notes from "Spiral Dynamics - Important Insights"

Center of gravity = When whe say someone/institution/country is "Orange", we mean it's mainly Orange in percentage.

Middle east for example is roughly blue, but there are different parts of it that are more or less Advanced.

 

Each stage stacks up into each other, and are necessary.
You need to pass through every stage.

It is important to transcend and include, not transcend and judge
 

Example: Stage green incorporate all lessons learned in previous stages

Acknowledge how lucky you were to be born in an advanced part of the world (Orange/greenish countries), which influenced heavily your developement on the spiral.

Center of gravity pulls society towards it, so a lower level will grow towards the center, but someone at the center will evolve much slower (or not at all).

Catch 22: Need higher developer leaders to increase the consciousness of our countries, but at the same time we have low consciousness leader because of the state of those country.
Slow process of incremental progress is inevitable.

Every stage thinks in a different way about reality = cognitive developement = values system = needs you have

• Blue can't realize they are dogmatic about religion/culture/race
• Orange can't realize they are dogmatic about science/rationalism
• Green can't realize they are dogmatic about moral issues (veganism/human rights)

Different stage needs different conditions to survive:

Lower stage needed muscles (beige/red), then conformism (blue), now how to use your mind (orange) etc

You can be at any states and experience any stages !

The higher you are on the spiral, the easier it will be to experience a specific states.

States will be interpreted through the stages you are in = that is why you can have dogmatic gurus

 

Types: masculinity vs feminity/Myers Briggs personality types/the ??? Types/the left-right brain types

Example: An Intp can be red or yellow.

 

Lines: Cognitive developement/Values developement/Emotional developement/Moral developement/Career and livelihood/Health and nutrition and diets/interpersonal relationships/Metaphysical and spiritual line/Education/Political/Sexual/Kinestethic

 

States/groups/religions and family all have lines too.

 

Each lines can be at any stages.
It is your overall color in each lines that determines your main color

Examples :

Types = Feminine-Masculine 

Masculinity: rights, autonomy, individuality, agency, thinking and freedom

Femininity: care, connection, compassion, feeling, relationship and Community
 

Every of those gender values will be different in any stages of the spiral, there will be an evolution of that.

More red femininity won't evolve an orange society.

 

Line = Morality

Selfish/care/universal care

Me/we/entire globe

• Me/us (family/tribe/corporation/country)
• Every human being that isn't evil
• Every human being
• All creatures on the planet
• All sentient beings (realms/galaxy/dimensions etc)
• Care for all reality, past present and future and all ways it can manifest

Enligthenment is absolute, but how you interpret it depends of your stage.
An awakened stage blue can still be racist and support slavery, biased in his culture and reject others.

Which means there is an infinite number of ways to interpret and live life!

Everything evolve through stages: movies/video games/books/politics/motivations/marriage/relationships/fears/worries/critisizism/notion of good and bad (crazyness) etc …

• Blue sees red as uncivilized and selfish
• Blue sees blue as lower civilization (as inferior) = ethnocentrism
• Blue sees orange as too liberal,materialistic and secular = views it as hedonism
• Blue sees green as communist, hippies, relativists, nihilists, libertines, bohemians
• Blue sees yellow as space cadets, elites, and intellectuals, lost in the clouds philosophers
• Blue sees turquoise as arrogant heretics and nutcases

 

• Orange sees red as dangerous criminals
• Orange sees blue as deluded religious fanatics, won't listen to reason
• Orange sees orange as competition
• Orange sees green as naive idealist, social justice warriors, too feminine too soft, hippies, snowflakes, bleeding heart liberals
• Orange sees yellow as impractical philosophers, theoraticians, source of ideas to exploit
• Orange sees turquoise as new ager, frauds and religious nutcases = seen as the same as blue fondamentalists

 

• Green sees red as victims of social abuse
• Green sees blue as heartless medieval fondamentalists who lacks compassion
• Green sees orange as care salesman and greedy capitalist
• Green sees green as comrade to build network for social justice
• Green sees yellow as aloof elitists and intellectual = too stuck in their head, not enough compassion/community
• Green sees turquoise as Green, what he already is, and tends to worship turquoise gurus

 

• Yellow sees red as dangerous narcissists
• Yellow sees blue as closed minded biggets, and moralists
• Yellow sees orange as myopic rationalist, sleezy business men, and mouse trapped in a maze
• Yellow sees green as naive emotional dugeders (??? )
• Yellow sees yellow as competent experts = yellow value the expertise and the intelligence of yellow
• Yellow sees turquoise as wise masters, the exemple of what mankind can aspire to

Confirmation bias works on every stage

Whatever the stage you're at you will pick out the facts that support and validate the correctedness of your stage, while ignoring every other set of facts.

Examples:

• Stage blue american: Will tend to think that muslims will take over the world
• Stage orange: Will tend to think that socialists will ruin the world
• Stage green: Will tend to think that the global warming and capitalism will destroy the world
• Stage yellow: Will tend to think that all the tier 1 will kill us because they have no awareness/are too stupid and always fight each other.
• Stage turquoise: Will tend to think that everything is perfect, that everything will happen as it's supposed to happen.

You will pick all evidences that confirm this fear and exclude every other facts that contradicts it.

1. Stage below green don't care about environement
2. Stage blue and orange will not appreciate psychedelics
3. Stages below green won't appreciate non-dual teachings

Only possible to drop a stage temporary under certain threat.

Possible to drop a stage permanently from an extreme threat (post apocalypse/brainwashing etc)

You can understand one or 2 stages ahead at best

Example: You need to open your heart to grow from orange to green

Orange:

• Pre entry phase: don't take green seriously, no worthy value at all, judge demonize green
• Entering phase: feels like you discover a new world
• Solid green: solid experience/friendships/knowledge(books), it feels familiar
• End phase: Green for so long, feeling stale, seeing the limitations of green

Techniques to move up the spiral:

• Meditation (2 stages every few years)
• Mindfullness practice (=being mindful all the time, not just when you sit and "meditate")
• Psychedelics (guarantee to move up)
• Meditative yoga
• Comptemplation
• Journaling
• Reading (opens you up to new perspective, need to read upper stage books)
• Solo retreat
• Workshops and seminars (upper stages ofc)
• Travel and exposing to new cultures (not touristic ideally)

All of those techniques only work if you do them consistently, responsibly and seriously.
