Is this wave pool ecological?

I think it's wonderful what technology can do and recently I stumbled on this video:

My question is:

Is this kind of technology ecological? If it's not, is it possible to make it ecological?

If it is, guys, it's amazing! I think it's a wonderful way of having waves in places where people can't reach the ocean.

Sometimes I think I'm on a low consciousness level for being marvelled with this kind of technology but, at the same time, I think: "damn, it's awesome! I would love to test this kind of thing!" I probably would feel guilty if this kind of stuff isn't ecological.

What do you guys think about it (also for those who have a better understanding of how works this kind of technology)?
