A method to train concentration

5 posts in this topic

Hey wonderful forum, I hope you can give me some good ideas here.

I've rediscovered my strengths and found out that i'm in a job which does'nt suit me. ( which I already knew).

Im beginning a new education, which I will do while keeping my full-time job. The subject is in computer science. I have'nt picked a speciality yet, but security seems damn interesting.

I have a mind that likes to roam across the steppes so to speak and look at all the sub-topics and connections within a field of study before I even get started. This can cause me to overwhelm myself before I even begin to drill down on whatever I should be focusing on at a particular time.

So, Im looking for a simple method that I can use daily to improve my ability to concentrate entirely upon whatever I am studying and completely ignore any distractions. I think this is a very important skill to aquire in self actualization and in life.

I hope you can give me some good ideas, Maybe you have some good experiences with a method of some kind.

I would be very happy for any feedback from you guys :)

Here is something Swami Vivekanda has said about cocnetration:

All knowledge that we have, either of the external or internal world, is obtained through only one method — by the concentration of the mind. No knowledge can be had of any science unless we can concentrate our minds upon the subject. ..

Oh, Im am ofcourse already meditating, 20 minutes every day.

Anapana meditation.

Observation of the natural breath in and out through the nostrils of the nose. Look up this meditation. It's very simple but powerful and is an incredibly important tool to use towards reaching our higher self.
