The Truth of the World

My Spiritual & Creative Work

I've been a member of this forum for many years, and I've recently decided that I want to start documenting a very personal part of my journey here: my creative work and how deeply it is connected to my spiritual path.

Lore Quest is a major part of my spiritual work, and there are several reasons why I am creating it.

First and foremost, it is an offering to Hekate.

I am a devotee of Hekate, and creating this story is one of the ways I choose to dedicate my work to her. I want the time, effort, creativity and personal growth that go into this project to be something I can offer in her honour.

But Lore Quest is also my shadow work.

When I write and draw, I often discover things about myself that I wasn't consciously trying to explore. The story has become a way for me to look at my own fears, flaws, desires, strengths and darker aspects of myself.

The story is happening both outside and inside of me.

The characters often represent different aspects of myself. The antagonists can embody the parts of myself that I struggle with — fear, pride, anger, selfishness, ignorance, or other things I need to confront. The protagonists and other positive characters can represent the qualities I want to develop and strengthen.

In a sense, they are all fighting for the same thing.

They are fighting for my heart.

Lore Quest is also my life's work.

I have another story I want to create in the future called Seekers, which I currently consider an even more ambitious project. Because of that, Lore Quest is also teaching me how to become a better writer, artist and storyteller. I don't yet know whether I will eventually publish Lore Quest. If I eventually feel that the story has reached a level where I'm proud of it, I may publish it. But even if I don't, the process of creating it is already meaningful to me.

There is also a fourth reason that is perhaps the most important one.

I want to create something good for the world.

I don't want my work to exist only for my own enjoyment or personal development. I hope that if people eventually read Lore Quest, they can get something meaningful from it.

I want the story to make people think.

I want it to make people question themselves, question what they believe, and perhaps see themselves or the world from a different perspective. I hope that some of the ideas and themes in the story can encourage people to grow as human beings.

If even a few people become a little kinder, wiser, more courageous or more willing to seek truth because of something I created, then I would consider that worthwhile.

In that sense, my personal growth and the story's purpose are connected.

I am trying to become a better person through the process of creating it, while also hoping that the finished work might help other people grow in their own way.

One of the central themes of Lore Quest is the search for truth. That is also one of the central themes of my own spiritual journey.

I want to understand myself better. I want to question my assumptions. I want to confront uncomfortable things rather than hide from them. And I want to become more willing to seek truth even when the truth isn't necessarily comfortable.

This is why creating Lore Quest has become such an important part of my spiritual practice.

I don't expect every part of the story to have a one-to-one symbolic meaning. Sometimes I'm simply writing a fantasy adventure because I enjoy doing so. But I have noticed again and again that my own struggles, thoughts and spiritual questions find their way into the story.

So this journal will be a record of that process.

I'll probably talk about the development of Lore Quest, the characters, artwork, writing, worldbuilding and story structure. But I'll also talk about the personal and spiritual thoughts that emerge while working on it.

I don't know exactly where this project will ultimately lead.

Maybe Lore Quest will become a finished story that I eventually publish.

Maybe it will remain primarily a deeply important part of my creative and spiritual development.

Maybe it will be both. For now, I'm simply going to make the story, learn from the process, and see where the path leads. 😁
