Projecting Earth on Square; square texturing small and large ball

https://geo-art-harmony.lovable.app/ - this is very nice version, and that the ball appear little bit higher-dimension can be seen as a bug or a feature; it project square on ball: from Hilbert, we know this might not be ideally possible, but Zen follows that the possible is the best-quality close result, because lacking this ideal is called cartographic projections - we live in this ever-lasting dukkha that higher dimensions are not linear, and lower are not ideal.

https://lageosis-geometric-v-p427.bolt.host/ - here, the alorithm definitely brings it down to a 3D ball, but some other symmetries appear weaker, because really - based on octaves, you can see in projection pipeline that 3rd octave is already 24D - it's octahedron (octave 0, normal 3D); then comes hyperoctahedron at 4D - but continuing the logic, more and more complex alternatives appear in higher-D, and *in those dimensions themselves* they appear very symmetric for our purpose.

  • Hilber states this is axiomatic and sure we lose some information balance if we reduce the dimensionality; it's like in physics, we cannot see both speed and position precisely and for same particle. Cartographic principles, indeed, are history-wide workarounds for this, projecting ball to slightly lower-dimensional square.
