One song only (thread)

1 post in this topic

Gun to your head. You can only choose one song.

The most beautiful, meaningful piece of auditory art you've ever heard.

What is that piece for you?

For me, it's this:

I love this piece so much.

It uses a river as a metaphor for life. At the start of a river, there is a lot of energy and momentum, as in with children.

"Hey there little speedy-head. The read on the speed-meter says, you have to go to task in the city."

But at the beginning of your life, it seems like you will go on forever.

"It's only just light-years to go."

Yet, as we all know, life is chaotic and full of larger than life forces that rock you on your back. As you get older it starts to gain momentum.

"Leave the road and memorize this life that passed before my eyes. Nothing is going my way."

As a 28 year old I appreciate the hell outta of this piece, because it puts me in touch with my mortality and makes me honor the shortness of my life.

"The ocean is a river's goal. 'A need to leave,' the water knows. We're closer now than light-years to go."

Now there is a deeper desire to make something of this life. To seek the ocean, the infinite. Mortal pressure is necessary and good for this to happen.

"There's no one left to take the lead. But I tell you and you can see, we're closer now than light years to go."

Again, this awareness, this strange attractor-pull toward the mysterious, infinate ocean. But now all of your illusions are seriously falling apart. You think to yourself 'nobody else has the truth, so it must rest with me. I must find it and tell it to myself.' Which means your God ofc.

"Pick up here and chase the ride. River empties to the tide. Fall into the ocean."

Jump in. Headfirst. It's your destiny. Do it with grace, honor, and love.

"There is nothing left to throw of ginger, lemon, indigo. Coriander stem and the rose of hay."

This is it. We left it ALL on the table. Our work here is done.

"Strength and courage overrides the privileged and weary eyes of river poet search naïveté."

He who is courageous enough to figure out life is a true philosopher. A sage. He who chases the wrong things, who is spoonfed truth without discernment, who arrests his development at naive level is a fool.

"Pick up here and chase the ride. The river empties to the tide. All of this is coming your way."

This means one of two things.

1) You ARE the ocean (Universe, God), and you (the river, your human self) is flowing back to You (your eternal Self).

2) Or, if you are still young like me, and the journey itself is 'coming your way.' The journey of going from high-energy, foolish young adult to calm, wise sage.

I hope you enjoy this song and look forward to seeing what you all share <3
