Smoking conformity in Indonesia 🚬

Hey y'all. I'm starting this thread as an extension of the mega-thread of conformity examples. 

 

But I found this cool documentary about the culture of smoking in Indonesia. Smoking cigarettes is done out of pure conformity. First it spreads through marketing and advertisements. Marketing gimmicks such as the Marlboro Man associate smoking a certain brand of cigarettes with masculinity, and being an all American cowboy.

Then it spreads through the culture. In countries such as China and Indonesia especially, its baked as deep into the culture as is shaking someones hand to greet them. These countries have virtually no restrictions of the tobacco companies ability to advertise and, and they hook consumers through a process called 'lifestyle advertising'.
