Jesus said "Love Thy Neighbor", why is that so Hard!

31 posts in this topic

One of the Essential Teachings of Jesus is to Love Thy Neighbor. but that is not what is happening in the World.. People today Love someone Long Dead, 100's or 1000's of Years ago Dead, more than the Person beside them Alive and Well Today, why is That?

People Idolize the past sometimes, I do this too, I luv'd being a Kid, I got everything I wanted, Life was Innocent, I was mostly totally Free, then I grew up lol!

So People look back with rose colored glasses sometimes, but cannot see the Brilliance of where Life is which is NOW!

Good Message here on this essential teaching from Jesus!

How can loving be easy? loving means to die at least to some degree. If you loved your neighbor and then loved your neighbor's neighbor and eventually loved everyone and everything then you would cease existing. Your existence is defined by lack of love. The less you love the bigger your ego, the bigger your self.
Do you think unconscious beings would choose to love, knowing that it would literally kill their unconsciousness, it would kill their greed, their pride, their attachments to everything in the world. No! they would rather preserve their essence, their fantasy and their delusions. To most people, higher degree of love is threatening. Why would a self seek their one demise?
To really love, you need a very translucent sense of self. Which most people don't have.

How does Loving Everyone Kill You?? I don't get this sort of understanding? Love is a Sweet Emotion, it releases healthy chemistry in Your Body, the more Loving You feel within Yourself the better.. Hate or Indifference/numbness does the opposite, its unhealthy for Body and MInd...!

Being to Egoic is self absorption, which is anti Love, too Love Yourself is sort of narcissistic in my book!

What is "you"? What are you? What is self? isnt it a differentiation from things that are not self? Love is the realization that the differentiation is false. that it is an illusion. That you are equally a book as much as you are your body. If you become everything in the universe, isnt that the death of your egoistic little self? I dont mean your body stops breathing. What I mean is differentiation between your body and surroundings will stop. Death is much more a egotistical phenomenon than it is physical

Here’s Bernadette Roberts’ perspective on this:

"We go deeper when we strive to follow Christ by living his first commandment — love God above all things, above all people, above nature and, above all, love God above ourselves. Unfortunately many people settle for the second commandment — love your neighbor as yourself — which in and of itself goes round in circles and has no need of God at all. Self-love is incapable of true love of neighbor; it may even be bad for him. Furthermore, self-love can never reach Christ's ultimate challenge of loving our enemies or those who do bad things to us. We cannot begin to understand the second commandment until we have come to the unitive state and thereby mastered the first commandment. The unitive state gives us the ability to see God in others with the same eye by which we see God in ourselves; thus what we love in others is the same God we love in ourselves. This love bypasses the whole phenomenal self or the person that appears, be he good, bad or indifferent. So before we can truly follow the second commandment, we must first have mastered the first commandment which means that true love of neighbor is impossible until we first love God above our neighbor and our self."

Good for you. I can’t say the same, to be honest.

When You Accept ppl as they are, then Love is easy, and Love is not based on the other person, it is based on what is going on within You.  If your so called Love is based on what the other person does or thinks then it is not love, but a contract of sorts, an arrangement..

So Love is about You first and foremost, You include other as a part of Yourself, that is Love...

That’s easier said than done. I’m going to focus on loving God first, as the Roberts quote suggests. When love for my neighbor comes, it will happen naturally. I believe David Hawkins said something similar: “Don’t try to love everybody. It will happen when it’s meant to happen.”

Love is not an Action, or an act of "trying", it is You including others as a part of yourself, this naturally happens when Your complete within Yourself, and your experience of Life is that of Oneness! Then Loving is natural, otherwise it is not Love as I would understand it, more of "If you do this then I promise to show love towards You" which is an arrangement and not love...

Isn’t that best achieved by loving God first? That’s all the quote I shared was suggesting, and honestly, I felt you dismissed it a bit too casually.

No, as there is no outside GOD imo, so who I have to Love first, this sounds like a Christian/Religious sort of attitude...

No the Best way to being Loving and Include all as part of Yourself is thru Yogic practices, step by step You get to the deeper aspects of what You are, I am not the Body or Mind, find out what was there before the Body and Mind then all is done... first fix distortions of the mind (drop belief's/identity/ego), live nobile truths (acts of kindness, honesty, lawfulness), prepare the body and mind for higher intensity energy (asanas), one pointed focus, samadhi experiences then your there...
