Prosecutors probe Sarajevo sniper tourism charges

Prosecutors in Milan have opened an investigation into Italians who allegedly paid members of the Bosnian Serb army for trips to Sarajevo so that they could kill citizens during the four-year siege of the European city in the 1990s.

A 2022 documentary titled "Sarajevo Safari" elucidated these accusations and maintained that the individuals involved hailed not only from Italy, but also from Spain, France, Canada, the United States and Russia. Whistleblower Gavazzeni had stated that the Germans and Engish were also involved.

These claims are based on witness statements collected by journalist and writer Ezio Gavazzeni, whose legal complaint earlier this year triggered the current investigation.

"There were no political or religious motivations," Gavazzeni explained, as quoted by The Guardian. "They were rich people who went there for fun and personal satisfaction. We are talking about people who love guns, who perhaps go to shooting ranges or on safari in Africa."

 

I suppose that since most of the animals and birds have become extinct or endangered and harder to find, these bored and wealthy thrill seekers may have diversified their prey base, out of force of habit.

Now that the investigation is on, I won't be surprised if some of the witnesses meet with sudden accidents or commit suicides in a short span of time, as in the Epstein and Dutroux scandals.
