Conscription is relatively common in Europe. This is just a light version of full consctiption.

Denmark also has a lottery system, but even if you get a pull your unlikely to get conscripted since volunteers make up the bulk of the military.

A lottery is more fair than conscripting based on whether or not your in college, like they did in the US during the Vietnam war.

I used to be a soy boy about conscription but now I don't think it's a big deal. Most 18 year olds don't have that much going on where a military experience is going to be too disruptive VS gainful in terms of experience.
