Tax Free Churches

Well the topic is not new, Churches,MegaChurches, Cults and all sorts of Grifters abound, Religious groups like URD church in Brasil and even one Mega Pastor called Malafia show up in a new Brasil doc recently saying to the reporter that he was clearly manipulating his members to vote in Bolsonaro. So Churches make money with religion grift, are tax free and at same time manipulate politics. My question is: Why is so important to keep Churches tax free if they have to much power to influence things that affect even people outside from their "spiritual service? "(Ironic )

There would be bad uncalculated consequences in making them more accountable of their actions? Would make no difference?
