Canadian Wildfires 2025

1 post in this topic

Canada has been suffering from large-scale wildfires since Mid-May, which are still on-going. According to the news, 33000+ people had to have been evacuated from their homes.

According to the latest reports, the vegetation of roughly 19,900 km2 area has been consumed, which is about the size of the country of Slovenia. The consequential smoke that was created sunk south to the US, degrading the air quality on the eastern half. New York, for example. Furthermore the smoke travelled above the Atlantic, up to Europe. It was observed even above Greece, as the most eastern location of the smoke so far. Even though the air quality is mostly unaffected in Europe since the fumes are so high in the atmosphere, the fact it reached Europe is very much telling of the impact this wildfire has.

You can track the wildfire activity at this interactive map. The spread of the smoke can be seen on this map.

It was most likely human-produced, but magnified beyond words due to the current atmospheric conditions. God be with the victims and those affected.
