  1. Here's one insight on this issue: Not once have I (or any other student for that matter) been told WHY I am studying what I'm studying in the first place. I'm in high school and this goes for each and every subject I have - regsrdeless of whether or not the subject / topic is genuinely important to know and understand, I have never been told WHY to study: Physics Chemistry English Mother tongue Sociology ICT History Geography Math Biology It feels like not even the teachers (most of them) fully know why they are teaching these subjcets. It's like they are there (the subjects) because they were in the past or the government thinks they're necessary. But if the later is the case, they forgot to TELL US why the curicilum is the way it is...
  2. I feel very nihilistic / depressed. I think about how life is pointless and this makes me depressed, frustrated, and neurotic. To resolve this, I went to the local park and just sat on a bench for some time and I was simply being aware of the phenomenon: I was observing my thoughts, how I feel etc. My question is: Do you think that I can resolve this issue like this - by just sitting and observing myself day after day after day? If not, are there any other ways you might recommend for resolving nihilism? Any books / teaching / videos on the subject? P.S. Even though this post was written in a very level-headed and cold-hearted way, believe me, the pain from this nihilism is agonizing... Please help!
  3. Why are you guys arguing (it looks like you are)? Plus, why don't you focus on the initial topic? It defeats the purpose of having different threads (w/ different titles) if you're not talking about the given topic / question / idea. No hate. Don't know if I come off as arrogant w/ this post. Just want to keep this forum as effective as possible. ???
  4. @Prabhaker @Echoes @Truth @Visitor @Emerald To be more specific, this thought / idea keeps bugging me: If (and when) we die and nothing will matter about what kind of life I lived when I'm dead (miserable or fulfilling), then what's the point of living at all? This is where my nihilism stems from... How do I reconcile this?
  5. @Leo Gura It's quite obvious...
  6. Thanks for the feedback! ?
  7. When I saw what Leo was doing with his Indinite Insights Blog I had an insight myself to capture all of my insights about life. So I dedicated a whole journal just for insights I have throughout the day. It's amazing when you realize how many there have been, but I've been just dismissing them or trying to keep them all neat and tidy in my head - it wasn't realy effective. If you're reading this, give this a try for yourself. You might be amazed by the number of insights you keep in your head. IMO, this is a powerful, yet simple tool for every human being on Earth! Keep growing! Cheers! ???
  8. This is pessimism at its finest. This kind of stuff is closing the doors before you've even started. Stop that shit! You won't regret it. ?
  9. Here's what I use for stuff like this. Write down all of your planned days with a pencil and when you accomplish what you wanted for the day, reaffirm those lines with a pen.
  10. There are pros and cons to both. I've experimented with both and written notes work better for me.
  11. I read your post (if that's what you mean by OP). I'm still unclear about it. Do you mean creating a sort of template for how to use the videos (what order, how to take notes, what steps to take etc.)?
  12. @username What do you mean "do we want degrees"? Can you be a bit more specific?
  13. I'm also very curious about this topic. Does anyone know any experiments / research done in this field? It would really be interesting to see scientific results on how literature books affect people.
  14. I have been addicted to porn for a couple of years and it's become a soul-draining and mindless activity. Here's my plan to unhook myself from it and although some of these things might be "too private", I figured it would inspire someone who wants to unhook from any bad habit that's robbing them of their time and energy. This is what it ACTUALLY looks like. P.S. I will check back after 100 days.
  15. This vid also helped me a lot. I wasn't affraid of loneliness per say, but I did think that I might go insane if I contionue to live in solitude for years. But when I saw the vid, I was at ease because now I can calmly move forward on this path without hesitation. I know that this is what I want. Though I have a lot of resistance from other people (my family, shoolmates, even close friends). From some I've been hiding this stuff (PD) though it's been causing a hell inside me because of the lying. Are you guys open with others about doing personal development (PD)? How do others react when they find out?
  16. Are the photos readable?
  17. Is this done well? Am I too vague? I'm just looking for feedback. I won't give any further explanations about this due to a respect of Actualized.org rights. Those who have done the course will know what I'm talking about.
  18. Type in the search box "Summary". ?
  19. Can you rationalize why you want something? I've been thinking amd thinking for quite some time. I've trying to find a reason for why we want the things that we want. For example, I've trying to answer the question "Why do we want growth, fulfillment, and happiness?" I mean HOW? Can you even find a logical reason, is it possible? Looking for a logical reason has made me nihilistic and feeling lost for some reason. Am I too rational?
  20. Can you say that you've EXPERIENCED Being? Or have you only experinced THE THOUGHT of it? How would you know whether it's worth it or not if you've only thought about it / heard about it / imagined it. Almost every enlightenment teacher says that all words can do is only point to this thing called "Being". The map is not the territory.
  21. @Orpheus IMO, the value of the list is that Leo has been sifting through 100s of personal development material (especially books) and you don't actually have to sift through yourself for weeks and months to get the good stuff. There are literally 1000s of books out there and quite frankly, a lot of them are bullshit / badly written / not practical / whatever. Though it's still just one person's opinion on the matter, so I'd advocate you make up your own mind. ?
  22. Like @street19 said - Don't spend money just because you have it. Spend it when you find something you want / need. Otherwise, you'd just be wasting resources. P.S. Maybe you already have sth worth spending it on. In that case, make the choice.
  23. After finishing the "Values Assessment" in the LP course I felt that the values and definitions I generated were completely inauthentic to me. This is probably because I forced myself to do the exercises and did them just for the sake of going through them. Long story short, I did them again and now I can confidently say that the 9 values I generated are really meaningful and authentic. But now I struggle to find just one more (the 10th one). I can put a value in the slot, but I feel like if I do so, then I'd again be doing this just for the sake of doing it and ultimately it wouldn't be authentic - it'd be just an empty word filling out a slot on the list? My question is directed to all who have done the course (and @Leo Gura) - I don't know wheter to keep pushing for the "perfect" answer OR settle for a random value as my #10 OR just leave it at 9 and continue with the course. What do you think? P.S. Leo, sorry if these notifications are flooding your inbox. I always feel like I'm bothering a very busy man whenever I ask you for sth. Either way, your opinion is highly valued on this forum.
