  1. I want to give that a try, is there any specific source you can recommend?
  2. Yes of course, there are tons of terrible stereotypes that i can point to all over the place and it does have a massive impact on society as a whole but also it affects those white people who live in places like vermont lol, who havent really come across black people because their whole perception is based on these stereotypes. There are many tropes like the magical negro, the black best friend, the gang member, the slave etc etc these all usually paint the black person in a one dimensional way and dont let the true voice of the character come out, maybe because the writer is ignorant to that voice as they are white and have little experience of black culture, at best insensitive at worst its insultingly racist. So im with you on that, but if a film does come along in the mainstream and provides nuanced 3d look at black people i think it should be celebrated. Whats interesting is that a lot of black films that are for black people are some of the most stereotypical films ive ever seen, Tyler Perry films for example or all the gang films that came out in the 90s, however a lot of times these are not held to the same standard because theyre made by black people. Regarding Soul which was written by a black writer I dont think it deserves that criticism. Ive had loads of experience with racism, from being stopped by police several times, not let into nightclubs, called names etc etc Ive gone through them in more detail on the forum in the past. Ive also been acutely aware of racism in the media and ive also been dismissed when ive brought up racism to white people, by liberal type white people at that, some even within my own family. To some extent it can make you feel less than, i kind of fought back and was pretty angry about it for a while, it would still trigger me to some extent if someone said something, but i have compassion for them now as i realise its ignorance and having a skewed perspective on their part. It also made me realise that white people simply dont understand it, some dont care that they dont understand it and some like yourself do make effort to, although that can kind of be annoying if not done in the right way. I will say its a hard balancing act for people trying to understand but it takes genuinely seeing them as not other and just listening to their experience if they want to talk about it. Its very difficult as there is an implicit bias in everyone and really you can just be aware of it rather than actively change it. I dont know how you would differentiate between racism or just talking about race, thats a tough question because i have a certain freedom where i can have an opinion on these things but for you it would be hard for you to say something isnt racist when a black person has said it is. Its like if came into your family and you said youre family had been treated badly and i said 'no you havent', you might take exception to it because what do i know? The paranoia happens because there been however many years of real racism, and my generation has experienced it but also our parents who had it worse have told us about their experience, black people dont trust government, they dont trust medical establishment, they dont trust education, sometimes its justified now. We're traumatised to an extent, especially those in the states that have been treated terribly, so it follows that they would be paranoid, however that paranoia can hold you back, where you dont even try or you think everyone is against you. It is true that it will be harder but it has improved, i wouldnt want to have grown up 50 years ago for example. So we have to appreciate that as well, we cant still have the mindset of 50 years ago as that will obviously not lead to progress. Soul food and bad diet came to your mind because your saw the characters race first and a stereotype came to your mind, it didnt for me honestly. This is what i mean about implicit bias. Thats like me, if it was a white character, saying mayonaise came to my mind, its kinda ridiculous. I love adventure time btw
  3. I'm not really coming at you personally I'm just debating the point. If you don't understand racism then of course, if you want to learn you should listen to the perspective of black people and their opinion on racism. I'm coming from a perspective of being very aware of racism and experiencing it first hand, so I'm more looking at the actual reality of the situation and whether the film should be considered racist. I understand her perspective as I personally know people that would find it racist as well, I just think it takes away from the real issues around race if there is a paranoia that everything is racist. There is of course enough real racism to focus on and I think it's important to differentiate what is and what isn't. But yeah you're doing the right thing and to be fair to her there is a long history of racist stuff in Disney films
  4. I mean yes you(she) can have a perception of it as racist and i can see how she might have that perception, keep in mind her channel actively looks for racism in media. But just because you can put together a narrative of something appearing racist it doesnt mean that it necessarily is or that its even damaging in anyway. Remember this is a kids film, lets say a young child was watching Soul, you would have to do a lot of explaining as to why its racist the being thing mistook one guy for another. If there is genuinely racist things going on then explain that. Where i can see a general point is that, there isnt enough of a variety of black media in the mainstream, so when there is and its negative or mischaracterises black people it can have a dramatic effect on perception and perpetuate stereotypes, this is a real issue(which is why that siamise cat clip is racist). But with Soul, most of the characters are black, there is a variety within the film and as far as i can see there isnt any criminal behavior or negative stereo types. They obviously have to have personalities and i guess theres a danger of stereotyping there but the alternative would be just to have bland, characters that have no hint of their race, which if they did there would definitely be complaints, its also very stifling if any depiction of a black person draws criticism. I honestly think this film will stand the test of time and go down as a really good representation of black people and also be a film with a profound spiritual message
  5. Man, i really dont see this as racist, this is really reaching, i could even make the argument that calling it racist is in itself racist, as in if this was 2 white characters getting mistaken for each other no one would say its racist, but because its 2 black characters race comes into it. The being that kills him is not white or any race, hes a higher dimension being, (feel kinda crazy pointing these things out ), he gets the wrong guy but he assumes its him as they were coming out of the same place, and he didnt see him from the front until he turned him around. He could also know literally what he eats so he could be specifically talking to that characters diet, again saying that its racial is again reducing that character solely to race, which can be seen as racist in my opinion. Im black and watching it the thought didnt even cross my mind that the scene was racist, in the back of my head i was waiting for some kind of racist slip up, but i feel like they did justice to the characters and made them 3 dimensional.
  6. For real, people can get energised by producing any content, from an overall perspective shes putting out content that reflects her world view which is the same as anyone putting out content. I am suspicious in that maybe she knows if she puts up a controversial take it will get more views, im sure shes aware of that, shes seems smart but her arguments dont really go together for me
  7. I actually watched the film yesterday and i think the commentator gives a really bad take on it. I think she misses what the movie is fundamentally about and questions certain parts of the narrative as being racist. Quick example is that she says Tina Fays character is white, this is not true, that character is pre-existence and she even specifically says she can change her voice to any voice, when she goes to earth she could be black. One of the initial scripts had a scene at the end where she was an Indian girl. The main character sacrificing himself at the end is because hes become selfless, which is literally the whole point of the movie, hes too attached to his self, her whole take is that 22 (tina fay) is over shadowing and taking over Joes role, for me this is not the case at all and that perspective actually takes away from what the movies trying to say. I also heard one of the directors is a Black guy who accidentally shot his best friend when he was a kid, the parents of his best friend chose not to press charges out of compassion, but obviously it messed the guy up and he made a vow to live for him and his best friend, which led him to be too focused on outcome and achievement and i think he had depression, only when he realised this he went in a more creative direction which led to making this film. The story is based on the insights of this director and you can see the theme is a big theme in his life. So in that way i think it was a very authentic film with a deep spiritual meaning, ill post a video i came across about the spiritual meaning below. I also think its amazing to have such themes in a kids film and these this type of content can actually lead to a rise in consciousness, probably more than a lot of other things. As to whether black people or any other ethnicity look or racism, of course theres a spectrum of people who dont care at all about it and people that look for it everywhere, what ive found is that its usually to do with how traumatised someone has been with racism. Ive got cousins in America (DC) who had a stable upbringing, lived in the suburbs, went to college etc and i dont think they really consider racism. My experience growing up in south london in the uk is somewhat different ive experienced it a lot more than them and am very aware of it, someone in South Africa growing up during apartheid has probably been heavily traumatised by it. So the fact is its there and its not necessarily fair to say to someone why are you complaining about it so much when youre not privy to their direct experience. It can also be the case that people who have not experienced it still complain a lot about it, i think regardless, its important to see the reality behind it and what are the facts, where can it be improved, what policies do we want changed. Otherwise you can get to the girl in the videos level where you are just looking for it and actually hurting genuine pieces of art that can provide value and show the black experience. There are more important issues for black people than films like this.
  8. ???? They probably won't though doom prophets have been around for millenia
  9. With everything pretty much its whether you're doing it from a sense of lack or not. If you're doing from lack it's like you need something from it, it's a means to get something or somewhere else in life, this can be for relationships, work, working out and obviously travelling. I think you seem to be aware of both dimensions and that's really an honest and realistic perspective to have. If you keep being aware and doing what you want to do because you want to do it then eventually it won't even be an issue. Remember as a kid when you just played with your toys it wasn't to get anywhere it was just to enjoy yourself l, the thought never even came into your head that you'd 'get anywhere'. Now as an adult that thought comes in, buts that's OK, you will transcend it as well, it's the process

  11. Yeah I love power v force, I haven't read the other one so I'll check it out, thanks ?
  12. He is under rated, excellent content but i think if you read one or two of his books youll know what hes trying to get across, it definitely got repetitive for me. I think it might be better just to get one of his books and read it every couple of years
  13. I guess a question for you is, 'without trumps input, how likely would it be that the capitol was stormed?'. The implication in your text is that Trump was well within his rights to contend the decision (I dont necessarily disagree), and that he undertook perfectly innocent actions, the fact that the capitol was stormed is because of a few extremists who took trumps words and ran with it. Trump had set things up before the election, he stated many times that he was not going to concede if he lost and if he did lose it would be because of some kind of fraud, most likely mail in. This is what you call a priming his supporters, before the election is even confirmed they are already convinced that there will be fraud. His supporters tend to believe whatever he says in a religious manner and I would guess he's aware of this. Then after he lost the election he claimed multiple instances of fraud, all of which were completely thrown out, a lot of which by republican judges. On top of that his team sent numerous emails to supporters claiming the election had been stolen and they needed to support by donating money. In the minds of the supporters their reality is that there is fraud and that its a conspiracy to get rid of trump. This is a complete fabrication conducted only by trump and furthered by his team. His supporters obviously would be riled up as he puts pressure on any officials that don't want to go along with his story. Then finally he says at a rally that everyone should march to capitol Hill to protest this stolen election. Now he may not have thought the rioters wouldve got in, but he's fed them with months of misinformation, outrage, conspiracies, all of which they believed completely. He would've known something would happen, if he didn't that is sever and dangerous levels of incompetence so either way he would be a threat to America. All of this was further exacerbated by the fact that he took so long to denounce them and when he did he said he 'loved them'. If someone was just incompentant or unaware they would definitely do their best to put out the fire, this was absolutely not done. So you may chose not to call it a coup but at best it's dangerously reckless, incompentant behavior, at worst its planned, manipulative and targeted behavior, either way he's at fault.
  14. Do you guys think some kind of civil war is a possibility? I mean the mind set of some of the maga people is extremely fanatical, reading the twitter thread earlier it seems even the not so extreme ones would be happy to go along with some violence, id be surprised if the military as a whole switched to trumps control but its not out of the question for a few factions to dissent. I dont know what will happen but i wonder if magas craziness is being underestimated. If it is on this path what can be done to avoid it?
  15. Interesting as im contemplating the same kind of questions as well. Currently i do Amazon fba and im considering other investments, one of which is Real estate. I havent come to any conclusions but i have some thoughts. Very few endeavours are just either high or low consciousness, for example you could probably meditate in a low conscious way because you heard it will make you more successful, on the other hand you could make money and put that into different high consciousness things, almost like diverting it from low consciousness to high consciousness. So really i think it comes down to your intention, personally i would like to make money and maybe invest it into things like renewable energy companies or give some to charity, even with something like real estate you could have good rates for your tenants or invest more in poorer areas. The key thing is to be aware of the impact you have, sometimes it might be a case of mitigating the negative impact and when possible give as much of a positive impact as you can. It may be the case that you pick a life purpose thats a yoga teacher and that may have a good impact for a few people, but if you are interested and good at business or stocks or whatever, then i dont see why you shouldnt use that to create an even larger impact using the money or maybe giving people jobs etc. Not only that you could still be a yoga teacher just that you wont have to worry about survival in the same way, meaning you could potentially give more to that craft
  16. Thing is free speech in principle could work if you didn't have bad actors deliberately muddying the waters and pushing the limits of it to destabilise and create chaos. The other issue is true believers of some potentially harmful ideology and its really hard to draw lines here because what could be classed as harmful? Maybe every dogmatic belief to some extent
  17. This whole south park episode is what wouldve happened if trump was as competent as Eric cartman
  18. Interesting take from DDN https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgrJbPkS6JE
  19. FYI - "You may be surprised to know that human breast milk has 40 micrograms of aluminium per litre, and infant formulas contain around 225 micrograms of aluminium per litre. Aluminium is also rapidly excreted – half of any dose of aluminium will be expelled from the body within 24 hours." https://theconversation.com/toxins-in-vaccines-a-potentially-deadly-misunderstanding-11010#:~:text=You may be surprised to,the body within 24 hours.
  20. I wouldnt say he thought people storming the Capitol would result in anything changing, he may not have even thought they would get that far, but the point is he knew something was going to happen probably at the expense of his most die hard supporters (getting arrested or even killed in some cases). What he gains is his narcissistic ego being fulfilled by seeing others put their lives on the line for him, its also a show of power and threat to those that oppose him, hes clearly said that any republicans against him will suffer. So hes definitely winning i dont know what the supporters are getting out of it. In my analogy the abusive partner just has to make the abused partner think theyre winning to continue the abuse
  21. Youre confused because you dont want to fully face the truth, youre like someone in an abusive toxic relationship 'he hit me but he loves me, im so confused'
  22. It's not a quick fix, sounds like you might have some deeper issues you haven't explored, maybe look into some kind of therapy to get some answers of the root of your issues.
  23. You can't blame the left for this, the right has to take responsibility for its actions, especially when they were condemning the blm protests peaceful or otherwise. They're also getting violent to stop a legal democratic election, I couldn't think of a worse reason to get violent. Tbf though I can't even lump the right altogether, this is people who are shitting on democracy whilst simultaneously preaching about democracy against everyone else, the levels of hypocrisy are actually insane
