A well intentioned but misguided, highly vocal group of people will say things like "all addictions result from trauma" and "to heal addiction you need to get to the root of your trauma." I'm sure that a large portion of addictions , possibly especially hard drug addicts have some major life traumas they are evading with drugs, but for me this is simply not true. The reason I use drugs has nothing to do with escaping the demons of the past and everything to do with escaping the boredom of the present. I simply don't do much that's very meaningful to me. I'm not helping people, not living my purpose. I go to work , I socialize, and I do substances . Sometimes I think about spiritual things but I don't live by those things. My life feels meaningless.
