Conformity is a key ingredient to the functioning of human society. An extreme example- some of us are less inclined to murder someone in broad daylight because of social consequences. Anything that we do that is influenced by the opinions of the groups we identify with is conformity in a nutshell. Non conformity may not look like going out and murdering someone in the face of social pushback, but it does start the process of asking why we put value in social acceptance in the first place. To do this- we have to start identifying less with social groups in which we belong to. This is risky depending on what degree we are attached to such groups. Participating in conformity can be done from a higher plane, but first requires questioning why we do the things we do.

On the heels of the latest Actualized.org video on conforming, I'm now realizing how empowering it feels to say NO. Saying NO to unhealthy things, is saying YES to healthy. This entire year, I've been assessing what has worked for my personal development and growth, and what hasn't (includes people, activities, ways of thinking, etc). It has become all too clear now the ways in which I limit myself and my growth for the sake of being liked and approved of. Saying NO is one powerful, under utilized tool in this work. I hope to get better at it as I age and develop.

Emptiness (or Nothingness) is the backdrop of all form. But then again, there is an illusory boundary between the two (form and non form)-two sides of the same coin. The coin itself is permanent- yet at the same time unidentifiable and can’t be conceptualized or spoken about- making it Eternal. Recognizing and coming into contact with the coin leaves you speechless, as it should. How do we come in contact with something that can’t be perceived or conceptualized?
