I can't imagine a flat universe. At all. Doesn't seem right -

The main reason why I quit is because I was depressed from reading his comments before he quit https://www.actualized.org/forum/profile/9958-thanatos13/ Smart guy and I agree with most of what he says. Only issue is that he doesn't think life is worth living. I may come back into spirituality though. Time will tell. I like your point that science is a great tool to view the world and that there are other great tools as well. And I can tell that you know a lot about science because you have a very strong understanding of its flaws. -

I got into spirituality 2 years ago. I quit around 5 months ago. Even then, the only thing I've been doing for 1.7 years is breathing. I didn't meditate daily but I did most days of the week. And watched a lot of Leo's videos. Just not the ones he posted over 2 years ago. I joined the forum pretty late but not too late. I joined around 4-6 months ago. -

Yeah, it's my assumption of mine that the universe is a sphere. Mainly because things that expand outward in all directions are usually spheres like stars or bubbles. And since I see the black all around the night sky it makes more sense for it to be similar to a sphere than some square or triangle or other shape. As for it expanded faster than the speed of light. Didn't know that and I'm quite shocked to read that. Science has been booming like crazy and has made living conditions easier for most people but the issue with science is when evidence is destroyed or cannot be found. Those questions that you're asking are spot on for understanding science. -

Interested how negative matter can be created continuously. That may play a huge factor in what causes the universe to expand. I like to think of the universe as a sphere that expands. That topic is definitely out of my current level of knowledge. I'm interested to research more Ah, I understand what you mean now. This is going to take quite some brain power for me to explain properly. Imagine that you are looking in space with a super functional telescope that hasn't been created yet. You zoom in. You see more stars than before since your eye sight has now been aided. Zoom in again and now you move past the stars that you currently see and you see more. Now keep zooming and now there are no more stars. You've reached the very end and all you see is the color black since you're looking at the one of the sides of the sphere. Spheres don't have sides but there's no other way for me to say that. If you could keep zooming in forever and consistently see more and more stars then you wouldn't see the color black next to any of the visible stars. You'd see the different colors that make up stars. You can't see the individual atoms on your hand but you can see the whole hand since the atoms are super close to each other. It's hard to explain things without having telekinesis. I hope you understand where I'm going with this. -

Eh, stars aren't really as big as they appear. They take up almost no space at all. All matter is 99.9999999999996% of empty matter. Here is the math: (copied, pasted of course) A hydrogen atom is made from a single proton that's circled by a single electron. How big is a hydrogen atom? The radius of a hydrogen atom is known as the Bohr Radius, which is equal to .529 × 10-10 meters. That means that a hydrogen atom has a volume of about 6.2 × 10-31 cubic meters. How big is the proton at the center of a hydrogen atom? Recent studies indicate that protons have a radius of about .84 × 10-15 meters, giving them a volume of about 2.5 × 10-45 cubic meters. We need to do a little more math to find out how much of a hydrogen atom is empty space: Percent Full = 100 × (Volume Filled / Total Volume) Percent Full = 100 × (2.5 × 10-45 m3 / 6.2 × 10-31 m3) Percent Full = 100 × (4 × 10-15) Percent Full = 4 × 10-13 % Percent Full = 0.0000000000004% If 0.0000000000004% of a hydrogen atom is full, then the rest of it must be empty: Percent Empty = 100% - Percent Full Percent Empty = 100% - 0.0000000000004% Percent Empty = 99.9999999999996% A hydrogen atom is about 99.9999999999996% empty space. Put another way, if a hydrogen atom were the size of the earth, the proton at its center would be about 200 meters (600 feet) across. While I wouldn't want something that big landing on my head, it's tiny compared to the size of the earth. -

I could definitely get back into spirituality as I grow older. I'll just leave that book on the shelf for now. Or perhaps learn more about it before I come to a close on it. I'll take your suggestion. And yeah, the HUDF is super interesting. Glad that the astronauts did something innovative with the hubble tele to make that discovery. It is amazing to think of how many galaxies there are. That opens many opportunities for planets that have living organisms that get to experience happiness. Thanks for that video man. Beautiful to see galaxies. I just find it odd how many galaxies are in a swirl shape. Most likely has something to do with the super-massive black hole that's in the center of each galaxy. That's been proven a while back. Each galaxy only contains a single super massive black hole, each super massive black hole is calculated to be half the mass of the galaxy itself. Some black holes even spin millions of times a second. Why do they spin so fast? When a star explodes, if large enough, a black whole gets created. All of that power from the explosion will make the black hole spin super fast. There is no force in space that interrupts the spinning. Interesting stuff oki -

Yes, rocks are how we determine how old the Earth is. That light/stars thing that I was talking about with other members in this thread belongs in a different category than that. -

I understand your point but you'd think that NSA would say that SOME stars are appearing out of no where do to their light reaching earth but that never happened at all. They constantly monitor space and the only difference is the planet locations since the planets orbit around your point. Even the big dipper is exactly the same. There are no new stars that appeared around it. You do have an excellent point and that did take quite some nice thinking. But I'm afraid that NSA has been observing the personable universe for many years now. -

@DrMobius Dude, you didn't have to be a jerk to him just to disagree with him. Not everything he said was wrong. -

Me not being interested in spiritual beliefs about reality doesn't equate to me not being interested in learning. Learning is perhaps the main thing I care for. As for me trying to prove a point, I'm simply waiting for a good counter-argument. I have been proven wrong in some of my other topics and admitted it. Aruging with people is not something I emotionally feel comfortable with doing but I want knowledge, not what feels good. This just isn't the case here yet. An example of me admitting to being wrong can be found in this thread: -

The location of where it is isn't relevant to whether it is infinitely large or finite. One can not know the location of a beach ball to know that it's not infinitely large. -

A sphere that has things like stars, planets etc. in it. It is not located anywhere since location (xyz coordinates) is a human tool. It just exists for whatever complex reasons. -

Well, this universe acts like a machine. Things happen because things just work like an algorithm. Nothing matters. So who "I" am can only be thought of by biological creatures since it is one of the things that allows for biological creatures to live. Without believing in an "I" one would not eat or do anything since nothing matters. They'd become one in the same as a rock or any other "non-living" piece of matter -

I use to meditate all the time 2 years back. Stopped several months back. Waste of time for what I want. Which is to study science as much as possible. Science admits that it doesn't know for sure (which spiritually doesn't) but it takes an educated guess. Which is good enough for me. Meditation doesn't make you more conscious. Then again, that depends on your definition of what conscious means. People tend to notoriously warp the definition of words from their original definition. About the where I start and where I end part. That depends on what you define as "me". If you mean my personality then that's a variety of brain activity happening. If you mean my body then that would be tricky since skin naturally turns into dust over time. I get where you're coming from since I watch the videos. Where leo was saying that "where does the air end" thing. There is no way for a human or any other animal to know ALL of what I am. The mind is built to improve survival. Not to help humans with coming up with correct answers things that they find cool and interesting. -
Roman25 replied to Roman25's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
I'm more concerned with this universe in particular and the inside of it. The outside is straight up impossible to know anything about. Imagining non-existence is most likely impossible for the following reasons: Imagining images in your mind is a survival mechanism. It allows for you to see future threats and such. It was not intended on allowing humans and other biological organisms to grasp concepts like infinity or nothingness. No one knows all of the details about how it works but that is the holy grail. -
Roman25 replied to Roman25's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
I am not infinite. That is a belief. I've heard that before, asked for evidence, got none. -
Roman25 replied to Roman25's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
Mystical and higher-conscious people just sounds like ego stroking. I hear often from spiritual people that you can become a "highly conscious" person with practice but I'm not buying that. Thinking that a highly conscious person has better answers or more wisdom than a normal person just sounds like a bubble to wrap yourself in to feel better about life and yourself. Not that it's wrong to delude yourself to feel better. Everyone does it regardless. I cannot say for certain that the universe is finite. I can only use the fact that our mind perceives it as black and what else we know about the universe to come up with an educated guess of if it's infinite or finite. I see enlightenment and psychedelics as a way for humans to see curvy lines while the lines are actually straight. It sounds folly to actually think that there is an experience that is known as "enlightenment'' where a biological organism gets to know the truth about reality. Or that psychedelics drugs will provide any sort of valuable insights. -

And you shouldn't include emotion in your arguments. This is elementary stuff man -

Yeah, educated guesses. -
Roman25 replied to Roman25's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
Sorry but no. Yes, it's true that space is not literally the color "black" but our minds interpret it that way. Space is "black" according to the definition. Scientifically, you are correct to say that black isn't a color but that wasn't the point I was getting across. If there was an infinite number of stars then it won't matter how far away they are from our eyes since they would be in all directions. Imagining a color in your mind is a topic that neuro-scientists don't understand completely so that doesn't aid your counter-argument. Your last sentence just shows that you're using emotion with your reply. -

There are also people who constantly monitor the sky. There has been no news of stars randomly appearing in the sky due to the light finally reaching Earth. -
Roman25 replied to Roman25's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
Unlikely. The earth is 4.6 billions of years old. Light should have had more than enough time to travel to earth by now. Especially since it's the fastest thing ever. It's safe to say that the limit of stars + the fact that it's black is proof that it isn't infinite. -
The only way to cure suicidal thoughts is for one to do it themselves overtime. It won't take an hour, a week, or even months to fully get rid of your suicidal thoughts. It requires constant work and understanding of what suicide is. I haven't fully cured mine but it definitely is improving a lot. There was a time when I got low to the point of where I was about try to kill myself with a butter knife due to family problems and nihilism. The main thing that helps is knowing that there is always a possibility for happiness. And it's nice to have people to hang out with.
