True, but not my point. My point is that they did not disclose on what kind of technology the researchers were measuring. If the researchers measured a cruise ship using Heavy Fuel Oil without scrubbers, then of course it would release high amounts of sulphur. This would have been great data 10-20 years ago, but since the scrubber systems are becoming mandatory in 2020, and since more and more ports are banning use of HFO in port, the data would be very old. Comparing this kind of data with modern day LNG cruise ships would be like comparing a gasoline car with no catalyst converter from 1980 to a modern car that runs on natural gasses and then pointing out how all cars pollute air with lead and sulphur and should be banned. This however is just speculation, so I decided to dig deeper and e-mail the channel. I asked them for their sources, and will be sharing my findings when they answer me.

Its not really my area of expertise(Im just a marine engineer and currently work as ship designer so I dont know much about cancerous toxins) but there is definitely research out there that points out higher cancer risk for people living in port cities. There was this document I watched of a man who worked as ship engineer until his 70's who's lungs were as bad as someone who was a chain smoker for their entire lifetime, but he claimed that he never smoked in is life. However, this was back in the day when we were paying little attention to the quality of gasses we let out of those engines. Nowdays we have higher engine efficiency(less exhaust gasses and less harmful substances in the exhaust gas), better fuel distillation processes(cleaner fuel), shipping industry is moving towards using Liquefied Natural Gas instead of HFO and MDO (cleaner than MDO and MUCH cleaner than HFO) more and more ports are requiring you to switch over to cleaner fuels before you enter the port, scrubbers are here which are a big game changer etc. Something to criticize about the video; It claims that one ship in port according to experts in Brussels and Germany releases more sulphur in a day than millions of cars but they leave out whether this study was done on HFO, MDO, or LNG fuel and if the ships were using HFO, did they use scrubbers. This is critical information due to the 2020 sulphur regulations and the move towards LNG. I would love to check this myself but they didnt care to share sources in their video or its description TL;DR I think their claims are based on actual research, but the research is outdated and does not take into account the recent and upcoming changes in fuel quality, fuel types and post-cleansing of exhaust gasses.

Just like on the ship, the treated water is released back to the environment. This is true in ship and ground facilities.

@Nak Khid For one, they use the argument that the ship dumps human waste into the ocean and makes it seem like its a bad thing. However, they leave out the fact that the waste goes through extensive cleaning before its let out into the ocean. The same process that city waste management facilities go through before dumping their waste into the ocean. They left that fact out purposely because it would have nullified their argument. They do it because they have agenda and that fact doesn't fit that agenda. Im not gonna go deeper into the other mis/twisted information on the video, but Im just saying dont take their words at face value.

There is tremendous pressure in the shipping world to move towards greener technology. One reason is of course lower costs (Ships use a LOT of fuel) and one reason is IMO regulations. Electric ships are amazing because they are easy to maintain without engineers onboard 24/7. In my opinion and with 5 years of experience I believe that a diesel powered ship will never be unmanned. The engine room simply cannot be left unmanned unless you build so much redundancy that you lose more money in lost cargo space than when you hire someone to upkeep the engine room. And then there is IMO, and without IMO the sulphur 2020 regulations would have never happened. The scrubber system required to reduce suplhur emissions from Heavy Fuel Oil is a costly system, its an engineers nightmare when its malfunctioning, its an engineers nightmare to retrofit to a ship and the cheaper scrubber solutions have limited areas of use because not all sea areas contain water that can be used in the scrubber system. Because of these problems, a lot of shipping companies have objected the sulphur 2020 regulations and some shipping companies have contemplated on moving to the sulphur free Marine Diesel Oil alltogether and ditch the HFO, but IMO wont budge. IMO is an environmental fighter that sadly lacks the praise it deserves

This. Its not the repetition that changes you, but the thoughts and realizations that pop up during the repetitions that tend to be life changing.

Depends on the country

So, no matter what we do we we regret our twenties when we are 30? I had this dilemma today that Im 25 and everyone around me are getting into relationships, and I feel like if I dont get one now then Im going to miss out of the whole thing, which is has creating more stress on top of my school work, thesis writing and my 9-5 office job. Like when I have finished school, should I go 100% out and start pick up to catch up on what I have missed? I've never been in relationships and I've had sex only a couple of times. Im really introvert but I have no problem doing extrovert stuff (Some call it ambivert)

@CreamCat Yup. Personally I would join war to defend my country, but I'd become conscious objector the moment I was requested to be on the offense. EDIT: (When I say defence I mean defence of borders, not like "We have to invade our neighbour to defend my fellow people". The latter one is a slippery slope to evilry) My reasoning is that powerful defence force can cause huge financial and manpower losses to the attacker and that is the best way to stop the war from ever even happening

Smart move would be to plant them to places that had trees that were cut down, and then humans just left the place without leaving any trees to start multiplying on the free space. That way the planted trees could spread their seeds and in 20-30 years 20 000 000 trees could become 200 000 000 trees

I'll tell you what Im not here to do, to raise my society acceptance score which you seem to obsess about ? Yeah this discussion seems to go nowhere so its best we stop here. You brought put good points about The Joker tho, thanks for that!

Our view of the reality is as valid perception of reality as mentally ill person's view of the reality is. In your reality there were no bad guys, in my reality the TV host was a narcissistic piece of shit. There is no way to determine which perception is delusional and which is reality, is there?

@Nickyy Ah, I mixed the character and actor. What I wrote about Robert was meant to be said about the character TV host Murray Franklin in the movie, I have nothing against Robert de Niro who played an amazing part as the TV-host I actually agree with the idea that the character was there just to be the bad guy for the main character to beat. I guess not all 100% of the movie can be showing middle finger to Hollywood cliche's because it wouldnt make enough money then. That said, I stand on my view that the TV-host Murray was a narcissistic man who only used Arthur for money, Arthur did not misintrept his agenda. I can somewhat identify with Joker because I know how a person shunned by the society thinks, though luckily I got over it with rigorous study of social skills. And I can tell with the 12 year experience of being bullied that the TV-host in the movie is a textbook model for someone who uses social skills to manipulate people for his own interest and to beat the already beaten so they wont rise up. EDIT: What do you mean by "The being the "bad guy" in Arthurs warped world"? What warped world? There was nothing to indicate that we are only seeing the world how Arthur sees it

Robert was using Arthur to make money. The only reason why he invited him to the show was because fans wanted to see more of Arthur. Calling Arthur the "Joker" was Roberts way of mocking Arthur. Arthur decided to own the name as his stage name in despise of Robert All Robert wanted to do was to make profit out of Arthurs personality. He knew that he could ridicule the socially awkward Arthur and continue on the "lets laugh at the comedian who makes nobody laugh" that created great reception in the previous episode. Robert was a bully, who just like my own bullies in elementary school used his high social skills to bully the ones lower in society. Robert was clearly a narcissistic personality with ability turn the people around him against everything you said. Tl;dr: Robert was a piece of shit EDIT: I was an idiot and mixed the character Murray Franklin with Robert. Sorry about that

I doubt his dance is that simple. I read a theory online that the first dance Arthur did in the bathroom stalls (This was improvised scene, original script stated that he went there to puke) symbolised his transcendence from Arthur to the Joker. In my mind his dance symbolises his liberation from the societys norms and rules. I think the dance gives him a momentary relief from all the mental and physical oppression he has to suffer in daily basis. This liberation is what enables him to take the character of joker to whom we see him turn in the end, as he is finally able to drop the "Always smile" act and resist the attempts of the society to turn him into a profitable member (Thats what mental help is for. Its not developed to help people get back on their feet, mental help is invented to make money for the society). After this liberation from the mental cage we all live in for the societys sake, he turns into the Joker whom we perceive as "evil" Anyone else agree that this thread pretty much proves that Actualized.org deserves its own art subforum?

This is my view, yes. For example, if you want to accept/gain control over the emotions you ran through when you contemplated on how its possible to feel good when someone close to you died, then try to accept the emotions, know that they are there and just be aware how your ego wants to act on them. If your ego succeeds in acting on the emotions, try to find the source. Usually just shining awareness on the reason why your ego acts on the emotion is enough to gain control of your ego on thay particular context Personal example: I had anxiousness when I read/heard about particular political topics and it was based on the fear that one day these people could be in leadership position and then go on to act on their delusions. However, then I realized that they are too incompetent or misinformed to ever have that power and my anxiousness disappeared ?

By finding something to celebrate on losing a loved one or losing friendship. It sounds harsh, I know, but there is positive in everything. The book "Way of the peaceful warrior" gives good examples of this (Spoilers ahead) In the book a man who is spiritual master in the western world loses his restaurant which he has built and kept for years. The restaurant burns down, and the man drops on his knees screaming and crying his lungs out. 2 minutes later he jumps up and is like "Well gee, looks like I finally have time to do the other thing I have been planning" and next week the guy goes living in the forests to connect with nature(Or something like that) Then later this said guy dies, and his friend who is also a spiritual master and a good friend of the main character celebrates his death. As the main character lashes on what is wrong with this old man who is dancing and partying after losing his friend, the old man says that he is envious of his friend who has found peace in his earthly journey (Or something like that) Though the old man rarely shows emotion in the book, he did show emotion after having to defend himself and the main character against muggers. He was sad that he had to harm someone. The teachings I learned about emotional mastery from this book would is that its not about feeling good all the time and avoiding negative emotions, but its about controlling your emotions and choosing what you feel, which gives you the freedom to align your emotions to your own view of the world. You mourn on what deserves mourning, and celebrate on what deserves celebrating. You choose how much, when and why. You are the master, not the slave.

Would he be evil from his own point of view? He seemed to be so confused about the attention given to the subway murders until he noticed that people were reacting positively to them. Only then he claimed his title as the killer. Its almost as if he was using feedback from other people to determine whether his action was good or wrong instead of a mindset that we use to judge murderors.

"And MAYBE we wont treat incels as if they are moral defectives, people who deserve to be shunned and cast out of society where they'll come back kicking the door and gun down us all down, we'll actually start treating them like human beings"
-
I find it weird how people seem to miss the point that Arthur never created the clown movement. It was the media that clorified his murders that in the end started up the whole "Rise up against the rich!" movement in the movie. Arthur never takes a political stand when he kills the men, he only stands up to his bullies who just happen to be rich, he doesnt want to fight rich people but the injustice.

@roar Citizens initiative regarding legalization of marijuana got passed few weeks ago, and it will be considered in the parlament in a few months. Our current politicians are really conservative when it comes to drugs so I wouldnt hold my breath on the law passing @tenta Are these memes really what drives the young audience to vote for nationalistic candidates when they grow up? Memes are just memes. Honk honk.

Teens (11-18 years olds) who are the majority commentators on platforms like Youtube and various forums like 4chan dont even understand what they are saying. First they call someone a libtard and then the same person goes full steam defending libertarianism. I dont think that kids are becoming more right wing. I think they are more left wing than ever, they just think that left wing politics is only about communism, SJW, LBTQ and political correctness. They say that they are right wing because they think that being on the left means that you belong to one of the previously mentioned groups. Kinda like how many atheists are actually agnostics when you question their belief for long enough, but agnostism isnt cool so they call themselves atheists EDIT: To add to my "They are not right wing" theory: If I got a dollar for every time someone on my local 4chan website commented how they voted the nationalistic party but didnt know them to be so fucking stupid in every thread that discussed about scandals revolving around the nationalistic party, I'd be living in a mansion right now. I think they are voting for that certain party because they imagine themselves being right wing when in reality they are left leaning individuals who then wonder why the right wing party isnt supporting what they believe in individually. The latest happened recently. Discussion about legalizing cannabis in Finland has been going on for few weeks and the nationalistic party voiced their opinion that they dont support this and there has been a lot of discussion on our local 4chan of why the nationalistic party is so stupid and old fashioned. There has been a lot of comments how they are going to switch from Perussuomalaiset(nationalistic party) to voting Vihreät(The greens, very progressive) because they finally realized how backward idiots Perussuomalaiset are. Lol ?

Wait is there really people who think in this way? Not bending your ass to a foreign country to let their military ravage the neighbouring countries is same as believing in the nazi ideology? Either thats rational mental gymnastics I dont understand, or severe lack of understanding politics and ideologies ? EDIT: It wouldnt really surprise me in our current political environment, but it would scare me.

@tenta Italy was the facist power demanding routes through Greece. Greece showed its stance against facism by standing their ground when Italy demanded access through their land. Celebrating such day would be anything but pro nazi ideology Correct me if Im wrong.

@CreamCat I feel like making a shock "art" out of someone elses popular character only to make a lot of money is taking a shit on the original art. They dont parody the original art because they are criticising it or because they liked it, they are paroding the original art only to gain revenue and doing it in a way that appeals to the humans most animalistic traits. If you want to create video of a young adult woman giving birth then you dont need a specific character from disney to fill the role unless you are marketing towards little kids, which was exactly what was going on with the Elsa fiasco. Call me conservative, but I believe that there needs to be respect towards the original authors vision when you copy their characters or their shows.
