[book] Zen And The Art Of Happiness, Chris Prentiss (9/10)

1 post in this topic

I read this book recently and it struck me so that I changed my attitude to life by 180  degrees.

The book is mainly about attitude, how you look at life events, what meaning do you give them. Cause events themselves are without meaning.

I could say that I knew this long before, theoretically. But reading this book I started to believe it deep in my guts. Earlier I knew it, now I believe it.

I used to think that knowing is better than believing. I was wrong. Knowing is just an intellectual mind game. Believing is what moves mountains. Believing without knowing isn't always good too - you can believe in some shit and get nasty consequences.

Chriss explains five principles that makes one happy:

1) Knowing that everything that happens to you will benefit you greatly.

2) There are no problems - just workout assignments.

3) You should review your past and  see how past events was beneficial to you.

4) Meditate.

5) Talk with universe.

This is not a book about Zen.

Perhaps Chriss was talking bit too much about his business:  "Passages Addiction Cure Centers", I took one point off from rating for that.
