AI, humans and Neanderthalers

Watch this video. Lately I’ve been thinking about the similarities between Neanderthals and us, Homo sapiens, when it comes to big changes in technology.

Neanderthals weren’t “dumb” at all. they had tools, culture, and even buried their dead. But when Homo sapiens came along with new ways of thinking and better tools, the Neanderthals slowly got phased out. They didn’t completely vanish though about 5% of their DNA lives on in us today.

Now, when I look at how fast AI is developing, I can’t help but wonder if we’re in a similar position. Some people will adapt and merge with the technology (kind of like becoming cyborgs), while a large part of humanity might struggle to keep up, just like the Neanderthals did. Maybe the “future human” won’t replace us outright, but instead absorb us the way sapiens absorbed Neanderthals. I know a lot of people who are just not fit for the job though. From my own observation you need at least 120+ IQ to be able to benefit from AI and have the capability to integrate it in your life in a productive, efficient and effective way.
