Politics are obviously a direct result of the society. Don't like the politics?, teach people, and support taxes for people to be taught. -

I think you're implying that the effective unemployment rate may be the same, I don't think you can. So with disability, Norway is super Social compared to Sweden, and still has lower unemployment. Especially with near identical employment rates, kicking people off disability should put some back to work, I can't imagine Sweden is trying to get actual disabled people to do work they can't, Sweden's disability reform appears to have happened in 2008. Curious what Norway's working rate is compared to the rest of Europe, because unemployment is relatively very low. -

@Carl-Richard I'm not familiar with Norwegian industry, I knew it was heavy in natural resources but through briefly reading it appears oil and the sovereign wealth fund are the largest generators of income in Norway. Wouldn't it make sense to tax wealth in the case where your country's revenues are primarily from your country's natural and collective resources? You're worried about oil and finance barrons moving, lol. -

Unemployment in Norway is low, wasn't the big tax increase in 2022/2023? Can't find anything other than .85 to 1.1% increase then, you said there were multiple increases. The un-named chart below is Norway. -

You said the effect would be short or midterm, 3 years is into midterm. "Jul 24, 2025 · Unemployment Rate in Norway averaged 4.07 percent from 1983 until 2025" "https://www.dyingeconomy.com › what-is-a-good-unemployment-rate.html What is a Good Unemployment Rate? - dyingeconomy.com As a general rule of thumb, the natural rate of unemployment has tended to average around 5% in normal times, and this is a reasonable estimate of" -

No you're not, you're arguing that the conservatives false premise about job loss is true when it's not. The wealth tax exists, unemployment is low...... -

"Sweden: income and payroll taxes) for a single worker at the average wage was 42.6%. Norway: The tax wedge for the same single average-wage earner was 36.0% " "Norway collected corporate tax revenue equal to 9.7% of GDP in 2021. This is largely because it charges a much higher tax rate on oil and gas extraction, with an effective corporate income tax rate of 78% on these activities. Sweden collected much less from corporate taxes, with revenue equal to 3.0% of GDP in 2021. " "Sweden does not have a wealth tax, and double the unemployment rate." Norway has low unemployment. -

There's no limit on wealth. Actually, they're likely to get more wealthy because of the tax system and government programs. -

Ya, my argument is that you don't want those companies jobs. It's not a zero sum game. "Sweden has a significantly higher unemployment rate than Norway, with Sweden's rate around 8.3% to 8.5% as of July-August 2025, while Norway's rate fell to 4.5% in July 2025. " -

Not true, your argument is based on the monopoly these corporations have on your country, and the hostage effect they're eliciting from it, therefore a logical person would want businesses that don't threaten a hostage crisis. -

Ya, at the liquidatable rate. Companies hide income that way. -

It's a tax on wealth not revenue, meaning you only pay if there's profit, meaning you only pay if you get wealthy off the business. You pay nothing if the business operates at cost where ypu only earn a salary. -

You said they will move the business, that's more than just not wanting to pay a tax. Why would you want businesses that don't value the country, to be profiting from your country, a business that will up and leave at the slightest whiff of a better exploit, that's unstable for a country, that's a lack of principles that typically result in a terrible company that people prefer to not work for, a company holding the place in the market from a more principled company, likely only existing by other means of exploitation of your country, and would be displaced in the market by a principled company if there was an even playing field. -

A nation is a group of people working together, exploiting would be only trying to take from the nation and not caring about the nation other than for that. Parasites, taking from the nation. -
Elliott replied to Carl-Richard's topic in Society, Politics, Government, Environment, Current Events
Sounds like Norway is in a hostage situation, and conservatives want to keep bending over to the businesses that only care about exploiting the nation. The tax is only on wealth, meaning they only pay if they're getting wealthy there. -

Only in a recession, otherwise, there's always business trying to hire, effectively infinite. -

There are certain industries that easily offshore, low-skill manufacturing, low-skill software, and low-skill telecommunications services, not Norway's niche as far as I'm aware. I don't believe Norway is going to ship oil jobs to China, if the companies did, then a new company would take over in Norway. Wealth tax is on income, meaning they only pay if they're making money, meaning someone will step into the vacuum to make that money if some parasite wants to move business elsewhere. Government spending done correctly, boosts the economy, boosting local businesses. If there isn't some need for tax revenue in Norway, then who would support taxes? No one supports taxes for the sake of taxes. -
Elliott replied to Carl-Richard's topic in Society, Politics, Government, Environment, Current Events
False, again you're using zero sum. There's only a limited number of people, businesses that want to hire and can afford to, don't, when people for the job are not available. What countries have the labor available and skilled in Norwegian industries? Few, and little labor room for many businesses from Norway. -
Elliott replied to Carl-Richard's topic in Society, Politics, Government, Environment, Current Events
Business is in part based on the labor market, when the market sees more labor available, it uses it. Other big businesses that stay will expand, smaller businesses will expand to be bigger businesses. How can everyone move their business to tiny Switzerland, and then still be profitable. It's a hysterically stupid narrative, are you incapable of thinking beyond a single variable? They have no more workers for any new businesses as it is. You move a business to where you can't find workers? "Switzerland's non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 2.7% in July 2025, matching the rate from the previous month. This figure is one of the lowest in Europe and remains low by international standards" This has been proven over and over again, the fear mongering has been proven false over and over again. It's not a zero sum gain. There's more than one variable, this isn't checkers. You're treating the real world as if it must be contained within a basic addition or subtraction equation. -
Elliott replied to Carl-Richard's topic in Society, Politics, Government, Environment, Current Events
It doesn't mean less jobs. Other businesses will create other jobs, new businesses will be created. You think everyone will just give up and fold their hands, no, they'll do something else. It's not a zero sum gain.
