what if good and bad really exist? what if we have free will? wouldn't life be meaningless if this wasn't the case? why do you want to believe life is meaningless? have you forgotten something?

You want meaning? Then you listen to someone like Eva Cassidy sing, then you can't deny there is meaning. Or, you just believe it's all in your mind. Up to you. -

Truth and meaning are so intertwined, I would almost say they are synonymous. -
People always tell me I am "different" People have tried to call me "autistic", but other people have pointed out that I don't fit into that category either. Once, I was almost assessed by professionals, because they thought they had discovered someone so unique, that they couldn't box me into any form of mental illness. I don't know what to do about this. Perhaps I am "special", like my parents told me when I was six? And when they said that, I said: "everyone is special"...but they insisted that I was extra special, like an anomaly in the universe. I don't know what I'm supposed to do about this. Leo, maybe you can help?

There is nothing I can verify that is outside of my own experience. So that is impossible. But I can still "believe" in things outside of my own experience. Ok, Just because I believe it does not mean it is true. But also, Just because I believe it, does not mean that it's NOT true. -

It's OK, I still just see black shapes on a screen. I know that my mind creates the meaning behind the words. This does not, however, negate my point that there could be an inherent meaning to life, beyond the mind. -

Yeah this is where faith comes into the picture, which you have none of. Because having "belief" requires humbling yourself and taking a "leap of faith". This means looking beyond the self. It could be possible that Heaven exists. Having faith means looking beyond your direct experience, and BELIEVING. This is why religions talk about "believers", because "believing" is very important in this matter, which you completely ignore. -

That is solipsism. I have gone meta, in that i believe that something exists beyond my mind. So it is irrelevant if my mind decides there is meaning to the rock, ha -

Did you believe you were the only thing in existence when you were a young child? I didn't. Is this something you have let your mind convince you of? -

TruthFreedom replied to TruthFreedom's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
yeah, but there could be an inherent meaning infused into the universe. meaning may not be simply created by the mind. have you considered this? how's that for going meta? maybe you can see that something actually exists outside your mind, Leo? -
in what way is it "gangster"?

Look, guys, I've figured it out. I just looked in the mirror, and there's a cock and balls growing from my forehead. Sometimes the answer is staring you right in the face.

I have watched Leo's video on free will, and have to say I disagree with him. My belief is that we do have free will, and my belief is reinforced by what I have read about the Hindu belief in karma. I have always thought that we have choices in life, and I think that it is most beneficial to believe that we do in fact have free will. It's very easy and convenient for some people to believe in determinism, because it lets them off the hook for evil actions. I believe we can set the wheel of karma in motion by the choices we make, and that good actions will bring good consequences in the future. Here is the Wikipedia description of free will related to karma in the Hindu belief system. I think it would be beneficial for some people to read this. I have highlighted the part which describes why this is important. "The doctrine of karma explains that while prarabdha karma shapes current life, we still have the free will to make choices in the present. These choices create agami karma (karma that affects our future). The present situation is influenced by the personal choices made through past actions, and the free will to make choices in the present shapes our future.[50] According to Swami Mukundananda's interpretation of Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 18, verse 63: "[t]his free will to choose between available alternatives has been given to the soul by God. The freedom of choice is not infinite. One cannot decide, “I choose to be the most intelligent person in the world.” Our choices are limited by our past and present karmas. However, we do possess a certain amount of free will, for we are not machines in the hands of God. Sometimes people question that if God had not given us free will then we would not have done any evil. But then we would not have done anything good either. The opportunity to do good always comes with the danger of doing evil. More importantly, God wants us to love him, and love is only possible when there is a choice. A machine cannot love for it does not have any freedom of choice. God created us with free will and provided us with choices so that we may choose him and thereby exercise our love for him. Even the all-powerful God cannot force the soul to love and surrender to him; this decision has to be made by the soul itself. Here, Shree Krishna is calling Arjun’s attention to his free will and asking him to choose."[51] Karma is not the only factor for fate, and therefore, the Hindu concept of fate is not deterministic or fatalistic. Along with an individual's actions, gods, personalized time, death, or nature can influence fate"
