The Corruption Of Cycling
By Leo Gura - August 31, 2025
Professional sports are hideously corrupt. There’s no better example of this than the history of professional cycling.
Again, this is an example of the falseness of libertarianism. Without strict regulations, all of society becomes like French cycling competitions from the early 1900s. Participants delude themselves through unconscious self-deception mechanisms that they are doing good when they are being evil. There is virtually no limit to how much humans will cheat, lie, bullshit, defraud, and rationalize it all without strict regulations.
The reason that no society on Earth is purely libertarian is because if it were, it would be like French cycling in the early 1900s. This is a disgusting way to live, but it is very free.
Notice this: if society was truly libertarian then parents would be selling their children for a wheel of cheese. If I said this in a debate, libertarians would say that I’m making an absurd strawman, but I’m really not, it’s how humans actually behave without regulations. This is human nature and libertarians do not understand it.
The key thing to realize is that freedom means the freedom to sell your children for a wheel of cheese.
Additionally, a key thing to realize about human nature is that when humans cheat and defraud, because they are unconscious, their mind convinces them that they are doing good. So it’s not only that humans cheat way more than you expect, it’s that they deeply believe that they are good, moral people for doing so. When an unconscious politician cheats to win an election, when an unconscious stock trader cheats to make a trade — he believes he’s doing good. This is why libertarian morality cannot work. Due to relativity and self-bias, every evil person thinks he’s doing good. So society cannot be organized around peoples’ personal moral tastes.
When a Zionist soldier kills a Palestinian baby, he thinks he’s doing good. When a Nazi kills a Jew, he thinks he’s doing good. When MAGA chuds overthrow the federal government, they think they are doing good. When a crypto-bro does a pump-and-dump, he thinks he’s doing good. When an oligarch corrupts democracy with lobbyists, he thinks he’s doing good. When a tech-bro steals your data and copyrighted art to feed his AI, he thinks he’s doing good. When Andrew Tate teaches men how to sex-traffic their girlfriends, he thinks he’s doing good. When a terrorist blows up a bus full of civilians, he thinks he’s doing good. When a dictator sends 100,000 troops to invade a neighboring nation, he thinks he’s doing good. And when a slave-master beats his slave, he thinks he is doing good. This happens because morality is a relative, self-serving human invention. But libertarians do not understand this.
