Drug Decriminalization Gone Wrong
By Leo Gura - April 10, 2025
This is what a libertarian state would look like in practice:
Yes, being too liberal is a problem, don’t kid yourself.
One thing I must admit being wrong about as a leftist/progressive is drug decriminalization. The cold reality is that when you make hard drugs or even weed easily available and destigmatized, a lot more people get addicted — and addiction cripples lives. The leftist, libertarian utopia where the evil government just decriminalizes all drugs and things are fine is an epic self-deception. That’s not how drugs work. The more I see it, the less I agree that even recreational weed should be allowed. Don’t bullshit yourself: recreational weed is evil. There is a huge difference between occasional tripping as spiritual work vs recreational use (which is what most people do). I’m really against chronic weed use, and all drug use, unless it’s for serious spiritual purposes in a non-addictive manner. Anything that makes you addicted is wrong.
This issue is a good example of where the left goes wrong. As long as drugs are easily accessible, people will use them. That’s the bottom line. The problem with decriminalization or legalization is that it makes drugs way too easy to get. The problem of drugs is truly a devil’s dilemma: we’re damned if we ban them and we’re damned if we don’t. The idea that the drug war is just an evil government racket is wrong. The drug war exits because easily accessible drugs ruin lives, families, and communities.
How do we solve the drug problem? What a question.

Please don’t mistake Actualized.org teachings for supporting addictive drug use. I’m concerned that people might use my psychedelic work to rationalize recreational use. I have never used drugs recreationally. Not weed. Not even alcohol. I don’t want Actualized.org to be used to endorse stoner culture or rave culture. Despite what it might seem, I’ve always been a sober-minded person and that’s one of the factors behind my success. If I had gotten mixed up with weed, alcohol, or even psychedelics at a young age I would not be as successful and developed as I am. If you’re in your early 20s or even younger, I recommend you delay experimentation with psychedelics until your life is more established. Build up your foundation before you run off into the spirit world. Being sober is crucial for making life-defining decisions in your late teens and early 20s. If you are high on weed every week you will make poor life decisions which are not in alignment with self-actualization and real spirituality. Weed will reduce your motivation for working hard and staying focused on your life purpose.
