A Caveat About Corruption
By Leo Gura - July 23, 2025
I wanted to warn you, I post a lot of material on this blog about corruption. This can seem negative, judgmental, and moralistic. You may get the idea that I expect you to be perfectly morally upright, squeaky-clean. This would be a mistake. If you are young (in your 20’s or 30’s) and struggling to establish your material success and survival, don’t get too hung up on moral perfection. I post about corruption not to shame you into moral righteousness but simply because I study human corruption as part of my understanding of reality. Transcending corruption is a kind of luxury one must earn. Remember, I’m 40 years old now and I’m coming from an advanced stage of development. I wasn’t this way in my 20’s and early 30’s. I had to work my way up to it. So don’t try to copy me too directly. You have to be honest with yourself about your level of development and your level of material need. I am at a point in my life where I earned enough money and security that I don’t need to be corrupt. Your situation is probably different. I’m also at an advanced stage where caring about truth, corruption, and integrity is very important to me, but you’re probably not at that stage yet.
Handle your material needs, handle your survival, work your way out of whatever hole you must so that you are secure enough to care about higher level issues like corruption. I don’t want you worrying so much about corruption that you fail take action towards creating a powerful life, like not starting a business or not going on a date. I don’t want you to feel guilty for bootstrapping your life.
Then again, this is not a license to be a corrupt demon. Keep your worst impulses in check. And remember, you’re always paying some price for untruth and selfishness. Too much corruption could end badly for you.
Remember, life always has externalities, You cannot live without causing some collateral damage. Just try to watch who you step on as you climb to the top.
Morality needs to come from your own consciousness and stage of development, not from being guilted into it by meĀ or trying to copy me.
