What Is A Thought?

29 posts in this topic

We are all inside a bubble. We seem like the center of the bubble, but really we are the entire bubble. Everything that appears is created by us, the bubble, but it is created from real models that are outside our bubble. This is solipsism, a mistaken idea that equates God with the bubble and affirms that what appears in it, the others, is imaginary, has no foundation. They have it, the bubble is just a reflection, reality is real. We are completely limited to the bubble that we are until death, but we can make its walls transparent, we can open the doors of perception and see without limit. To do this you have to perform an action, you have to let the self, the center, fall. No one can explain how to do this I would say, but one thing is certain, thought must be completely deactivated of its force, and its force is the meaning.

Yeah, everything that is defined or communicated are thoughts.

@Breakingthewall Of course not, if there is not medium for the communication of the thought then there is no communication of that thought, and if there is a medium then this must itself be communicated for the thought to be communicated, therefore everything that is communicated is not a thought.

The typical medium to introduce here would be sense impression.

As a reminder: very little of anything is ever an "everything".

What if you stop labelling a thought as a thought? What remains?

(Spoiler alert: Whatever answer comes up is just another thought. Simply observe it like you would observe a fly that's passing by and see what happens.)

Why so serious?

@Bazooka Jesus the thought has little to do with the label, their relationship is what we call accidental, so your conclusion is correct, a thought remains, but it is not as you said "another thought" instead it is the same thought in a new moment.

I meant that everything that is communicated by words is a though. A thought is a mental representation of reality, it may be verbal or not, but when you verbalize something, it's because you are thinking it . True that you also can communicate things that are not thoughts, such as anger, happiness with attitudes, but I'd say that words are thoughts

For sure that clears it up, and I agree that all that is communicated by words are thoughts (at least so far as the purpose for the word is concerned), and even as you said that words themselves can be thoughts, and also that anger is not a thought.

I would stress though that even verbal thoughts with mere semantic content requires a medium of communication that is itself communicated, such as I now communicate to you through your sensitivity to the contrast between colours, which when I put it that way becomes a bit trippy.

Thoughts are recycled information that your 5 senses have brought in and Your intellect has put together to form some sort of coherent pattern or stream of images and ideas going on in your mind..Your Thoughts will strongly be influenced by what You are identified with, intellect revolves around identity. Memory of course is needed here, if You had no ability to remember, you wouldn't have thoughts, so all of this is making up stories in your head  mostly compulsively, unless Your very Aware and have some space created btwn what is You and what is not You...

Short answer?

Consciousness.

There is no thought. No thinking.

Only consciousness.

No feeling or perceiving, either.

Just consciousness.

But this is not satisfactory enough, for some reason.

Why does it seem like there is a thought, when there isn't? Why does it seem as if someone is thinking, when no one is?

What is consciousness up to?

Instead of giving further explanations, I would invite you to, if you have the luxary of being able to drop all thinking for 3 - 5 or more seconds... do that, and watch closely the first thought coming into being. What is it, actually? Where does it come from and where does it go? Really zoom in on it - if you will. Pay close attention. Feel the thought.

Come back and let me know what you discovered.

A thought is all of your writing. But according to you it doesn't exist, so as that is such....there is nothing to come back to and discover because...it isn't there according to you.

You are a selfless LACK OF APPEARANCE, that CONSTRUCTS AN APPEARANCE. But that appearance can disappear and reappear and we call that change, we call it time, we call it space, we call it distance, we call distinctness, we call it other. But notice...this appearance, is a SELF. A SELF IS A CONSTRUCTION!!!

So if you want to know the TRUTH OF THE CONSTRUCTION. Just deconstruct the construction!!!! No point in playing these mind games!!! No point in creating needless complexity!!! The truth of what you are is a BLANK!!!! A selfless awareness....then that means there is NO OTHER, and everything you have ever perceived was JUST AN APPEARANCE, A MIRAGE, AN ILLUSION, IMAGINARY.

Everything that appears....appears out of a lack of appearance/void/no-thing, non-sense (can't be sensed because there is nothing to sense). That is what you are, and what arises...is made of that. So nonexistence, arises/creates existence. And thus everything is solved.
