I have trouble caring enough to have an impact on the world

16 posts in this topic

I know that life purpose is the meaningful impact you have on the world, using your greatest strengths, but for years now I've felt too apathetic to care about improving the world, or other people's lives, or the environment, etc.

I can recognize when there is something wrong or unjust happening in the world and I do feel sad about it sometimes, and I do try to live in a way that does not to contribute to these negatives. But I just don't care enough to be active and passionate about solving any issues.

And I'm miserable because of it. My life feels empty and incomplete because I'm just a cog in a machine, doing a job that I don't really care about.

I feel stuck. Send help.

I was gonna write the same thread a few weeks ago, I feel the same.

I find it easier to motivate myself with passion and ambition, building a company for example, especially when It's fun.

however, I'm completely disconnected from the concept of Impact and improving people's lives...

I think your supposed to cultivate/grow your love for humanity and living things, but I don't know how to do that.

Back in the day I wanted to build a computer company, I couldn't come up with reasons why that would be important for humanity and why I should care about that aspect of it.

And hey man, maybe It's unrealistic to care about that aspect of your career for now. Maybe you should just find what you like doing the most and later on you will develop your reasons for why it matters, I don't know.

But again, the best way would be to grow your love for humanity. Maybe others can provide insight into that.

Maybe have a psychedelic experience Idk, I was thinking about trying it out.

Then find your life purpose for yourself.

You don't have to objectively do something for this planet. It's not up to you anyway. Changing the course of the world would need a lot of people coming together. Embrace who you are and look for love within. One way is to find joys in the simplest littlest things of life. To passion in what you love doing. You do your work to the best of your ability and that should be your satisfaction.

No. It's the meaning you feel doing what you do. Don't do what anybody else thinks you should do. Do what you want to do.

Of course, that doesn't mean go rob a bank or steal candy from children. But your primary focus should be on what makes you feel meaning.

Probably you are still young to derive meaning out of that. It's still good to put some thought on it though

Don’t focus on what the world needs or how can you improve it. Simply find what you need and go in your own personal development journey.
what makes you passionate?

what turns you on in life?

what do you love doing?

Your life purpose is hidden in the little things you naturally do during your day that spark joy in you. Your gifts will always show up.
if you’re having a hard time finding something that brings you joy start there and focus on getting out of the dark cloud you’re in.

You will naturally feel inspired as you find your bliss and will naturally gravitate towards your purpose, it naturally happens to you as you allow it to.

The desire to be in service doing what you love doing will happen once you feel fulfilled. You can’t give with an empty cup

How old are you? How much world experience do you have? Have you lived in multiple countries? Spoken to many people from different cultures, held multiple jobs in different industries?

Maybe you just haven't matured enough to see that (this is not meant to offend you, just in general young people have less life experience which makes it more challenging to create an idea of a profound impact because you just haven't had the opportunity to see those things that need to be changed.

Maybe all of this will come to you in 5-10 years naturally.

Does that make sense?

@MarkKol @universe @Enlightement @Carl-Richard @Human Mint @lizz_luna @Michael569 Thank you so much for the advice guys! I think you are right - I need to find things that I genuinely enjoy doing. I have recently realized that it is very hard for me to enjoy anything in life because I have been traumatized into feeling anxious, dismissive, nihilistic and pessimistic, and expecting the worst all the time. I am too busy trying to cope with pain and have no time to seek joy. This is something I have to work on.

I wish you all the best ❤️

Relax, man. Life is meaningless anyways.

The idea that 'Life-Purpose makes your life happy and meaningful' is actually an illusion. For one, there are trade-offs no matter what lifestyle you choose. And for the other, that all of meaning is an illusion! Cuz life is fundamentally meaningless.

Now, why do we construct this illusion? So that, instead of running in a rat-race and having the achievement of some materialistic goals define the meaning of our life, which we have little to no control over, we have the commitment to a cause and giving something to the world define the meaning of our life. We have a lot more control over that. And, if it aligns with your creative-capacities, you will actually be able to deliver on it, you will actually be able to change the world for the better.

It sounds like you don't know your creative-capacities. Or, even if you do, you are in a scarcity-mindset about the ways in which you could use it to do something good for the world. When that's you and you picture yourself doing something good for the world, in some limited way that you know, it doesn't align with your creative-capacity, you don't feel passionate about it and then you rationalize it with a nihilistic ideology. Also, if this is you, you will know how to be a cog in a machine, but you will not know how else to survive in the world. Cuz you're not in touch with your creative-capacities. So, I strongly urge you to figure this out about yourself. This is what people mean by 'aligning with your strengths'.

There are good and bad illusions, and the idea that life is meaningless is a particularly bad one.

I see your perspective. I used to feel that way a lot and I still do occasionally. When I do feel that way I look at all of the little positive things in my life to balance out the negative. I practice daily gratitude. If I feel down about the environment I donate money to plant trees or tend to my plants. I recognize that I'm only one person and try to lead a simple life. Little baby steps everyday. Honestly just pulling your own weight is an excellent start and nothing to be ashamed of. All feelings are natural and should never be ashamed of. Do not identify with the feelings and don't take them too seriously.

Wait a sec... isn't all 'meaning' an illusion, fundamentally? Isn't life actually meaningless, isn't all meaning a construction of your mind?

You need to let world help you first, share with world what you love, what is your passion, world will help you. Now you are ready to help the world.
