How do I stop giving things power over me?

9 posts in this topic

Be it people, thoughts, addictions or whatever. I understand that, even on a human level, a lot of the problems I have exist because I give them the power to be a problem. I fuel them with the fire of my passion. And it's not just me! All the people around me become so passionate when it comes to their problems!

So how do I stop giving all of these things so much power?

Be very aware of your thoughts, images running through your head. And the way in which you perceive reality. That is the only one in power.

The one way out of this is to push yourself out of your comfort zone. If you keep obsessing over petty stuff, it's going to get to you. Learn to let go if something is not that important. Prioritize your needs. Focus on what you can do in a situation versus how bad the situation is. The reason why you're giving so much power to your problems has to do with focusing on the negatives in a situation. Keep going forward and simply choose to focus more on the positives of a situation. If you let it have a grip on you, then it will bring you down.. Also like the user suggested above, the Power of Now is an excellent read.
