Oh god, what a genius movie! It literally put tears of joy in my eyes the first time I saw it, although no one else I discussed it with seems to think much of this "weird crap"; oh well.

It's one of the best deconstructions of the anthropocentric paradigm - snaps you right out of it, if you allow it. Alien lifeform's total, brutal disregard for "host's'" life, death, bodily integrity, sanity or suffering results, nevertheless, in forms that we can't help but call beautiful and aesthetic, if a bit (or a lot) grotesque. And this, I think, is a very good illustration of what the Absolute is "up to", to the extent we can even discuss such things: it does not care about meaning, or life, or, really, any one thing in particular - IT JUST. EXPLORES. FORM. And every form it produces is, in its own way, beautiful - though some of them might be more difficult for us to appreciate from our finite perspective.

Leo's Quote #006 instantly reminded me of this movie; I wonder if it was inspired by it to some extent.
