To What Extent Does Leo Still Believe That Flattening The Self is Useful on The Path?

10 posts in this topic

See this video for reference regarding the flattening idea for the self at 31:13:

Please see Leo's comment 6 years ago under the video where he says:

Good work! Keep flattening yourself. There is much self to flatten ;)

In response to:

By the flattening of "myself" i realised that i'm just existence., :o phenomenal video Leo :D

....

Don't spare me any nuance here.  If any because it seems as though he doesn't flatten the self entirely in his current teachings.

To what extent does Leo currently believe that one should not flatten the self?

In the current teachings, you inflate the illusion of yourself.

I'm guessing the expectation here is that a self can be reduced or simplified. However, there is a lot of room for interpretation here. If a self can be flattened, then it must be composed of parts that make up a structure. I think there is some truth to this. The process of flattening would then involve collapsing that structure into something simpler or truer. In my own experience, I think the self comes and goes, returning when I become aware again that I am a self. So if I were to flatten my self, I would say that I am an "awareness of being a self", a pinprick of somethingness separate from everything else.

Therefore, I think the process of flattening is a personal one and not a universal truth. It is not clear that it should flatten to the same thing for everyone. If Leo flattens himself to God then that's his process.

All stories and explanations are false.

That's not true.

It sounds like you misunderstood. “Flatness” in any nondual spiritual context would merely refer to distance and separation being illusory.

I don't understand how I could have misunderstood anything when I asked a question for understanding.  "Flatness in any nondual spiritual context" seems to be an overstatement on your part.  I'm asking what Leo thinks about this and whether there is any discrepancy between 6 years ago and today.  In my experience, by completely 'flattening' the self and external world you can inadvertently realize separation and distance to be illusory.  You realize you are existence itself. Which comports with what you said and with what the video commenter said which I quoted above.

How do you know that?

"Not believing your own thoughts, you’re free from the primal desire: the thought that reality should be different than it is. You realise the wordless, the unthinkable. You understand that any mystery is only what you yourself have created. In fact, there’s no mystery. Everything is as clear as day. It’s simple, because there really isn’t anything. There’s only the story appearing now. And not even that.” — Byron Katie

When you close your eyes at night and go to sleep, if you pay attention you flatten your sense of self. If you completely let go and do not dream....the sense of you is completely gone. So when he says flatten the self...think it terms of the surrendering you do every time you go to sleep. But....see if you can do that consciously. Can you be still at the same level you do when you sleep?

The same strength, the same level of desire it takes to change your life, is the same strength, the same level of desire it takes to end your life. Notice you are headed towards one or the other. - Razard86

Your ACTIONS REVEAL how you REALLY FEEL. Want TRUTH? Observe and ADMIT, do the OPPOSITE of what you usually do which is observe and DENY. - Razard86

Think about it.....Leo gave the best definition of the truth I ever heard...."The truth is what is..." so if that is the truth.... YOUR ACTIONS IN THE PRESENT ARE THE TRUTH!! It's what's happening....do you like what you see? Can you accept it? You are just a SENTIENT MIRROR, OBSERVING ITS REFLECTION..... can you accept what appears? -Razard86

flattening oneself meant diluting the separation between you and what is not you. This separation occurs in the experience that is happening and is what we call the illusion of the self. I would say that Leo has a hard time flattening because he can't help but conceptualize. there is something strange in his way of integrating awakening, although I don't know exactly how to define it. in his case it seems that to flatten is for the whole experience to become self. But he has gone very deep, it's difficult to understand
