US Midterm vote results

18 posts in this topic

It was predicted and expected by some that a Red Wave would turn the Senate and the House to the Republican side. Well, that has not happened, seems Democrats and young people particularly have moved their asses to cast their votes.

I Just wanted to share these two maps, as it can be a bit misleading to see the two colors divided by the land, because when you do it by counting the actual number of votes, it is not as red.

@Hatfort

Yes decent results for Dems overall.

Still two big races in particular to be called, senate in Georgia and governor in Arizona. If they both go Blue that will be a big deal.

Decent is underselling it. They did well. The best results in over 40 years for the democratic party

Well, congrates dems. Just don't fuck up this term like the last time, more than half the promises not delivered.

@Danioover9000 just remember that the entire agenda of the Republican party is to obstruct anything Biden tries to pass. Most people don't follow politics so they just pay attention to the results of the people elected while forgetting about the latest outrage within a month. Sometimes the democrats have limited control over what can pass. Hopefully it will be easier for republicans to cross the isle if they are not MAGA republicans. Biden is trying to ease polarization by painting MAGA as an extreme while he is able to work with some republicans.

One more seat for the Democrats, Arizona goes blue, therefore, so does the Senate. Katie Hobbs has defeated Kari Lake, another pro-Trump MAGA loonie. It's an important victory in a swing state, even more considering Kari Lake is a 2020 election result-denier.

So the Senate right now is 50 - 49, and the last seat will be decided in Georgia between Warnock and Walker. Come on, Walker is just not suited for the job, he has a hard time being coherent, don't Republicans have some standards? Not to mention his and their hypocrisy in the abortion matter. It's crazy!

If Democrats get 51 seats, Republicans won't be able to block legislation so easily and the Trojan horse Joe Manchin alone won't be enough either. They still have Kirsten Sinema though and there may be more ready to be activated when needed. But that's yet to be seen, there's a positive trend for progressive legislation right now.

Overall it's a net loss given the House. They will now run sham hearings and committees to obstruct everything they can.

The biggest problem is that there's just no decent governance possible unless Dems have all 3 branches, which is really dysfunctional.

@Leo Gura do you think democrats could win rural voters if they focused on issues which uniquely impacted these groups? In order to get a functional government, the democrats will need to win rural counties somehow.

One idea is to increase access to online learning so that underprivileged rural families don't have to go through long bus rides to get to school while increasing opportunities for the surplus of teachers in the cities. Long bus rides correlate to low GPA. Maybe there are other ways democrats could try to win rural voters. Republicans win very easily in these areas just as conservative parties in Europe win easily in rural areas.

Winning rural voters could help ease polarization considerably.

I disagree. The republicans are operating from an ORANGE/green level, which is better than most of US history. I guess it depends on where you set the bar.

There’s only the story appearing now. And not even that.” — Byron Katie

The problem is many of those voters are brainwashed by right-wing media and they don't care about the actual issues or policies, they want to own the Libs and fight in culture wars.

It can be hard to work with someone when all they want is to engage in tribalism. If most voters are not interested problem solving, then there is only so much running on good policy can do. Is there really nothing the Democratic party can do to reach such voters?

If that is the case, then it looks like the Democratic party needs more time. One of the reasons the red wave didn't happen is because there are more young voters who feel motivated to get involved. Could a more functional government emerge from the older generation dying and the newer generation increasing in number every election cycle?

Dems just need to focus on doing a good just governing. Good governance speaks for itself. Moderates will be convinced by good governance and serious candidates who are not strong ideologues.

The strategy is basically: be a decent human being, have some positive vision, and govern effectively.

Best first midterms results in 60 years for the Democratic Party holding the presidency. It also was the third or 4th time in all of US history where the party holding the White House did well in a midterm election.

Beware, Herschel Walker is on campaign. lol

Let's be clear, I'm not saying he can't win. Voters too often are like: 'You don't think we will elect this dumb fuck for governor? Hold my beer.'

The house definitely goes red, 218 seats were required and Republicans already have 219.

This means they can pursue investigations on the Biden crime family, as they call it, and who knows what other stuff. Look, I'd like to say it's good Democrats are held accountable somehow, but at this point, I don't expect any good-faith attempts from Republicans, it's not their thing. I've read they would need cooperation from the Senate to enact their lunatic agendas, and that they don't have, so let them bark.

Herschel Walker is asked what message he has for the new generation of voters that don't know how it was to grow up without the Internet. His message is that if they don't like America they can leave and go somewhere else. Lovely man.

He does prefer werewolves to vampires though. That's important.

The Republican Party has really become incredibly dysfunctional and scary.

Btw, Biden and the Democrats didn't just have best first midterm elections results for the party of the incumbent president since Bush and the Republicans in 2002 (20 years ago) and the best first midterm elections results for the Democratic Party holding the presidency since JFK and the Democrats in 1962 (60 years ago).

They also achieved a net gain in governorships throughout the country in these midterms elections, which is the first time this has ever happened in a first midterm election for party of the incumbent president since Reagan and the Republicans in 1986 (36 years ago).

That's not all. Biden and the Democrats defended every legislative chamber they had held prior to this election plus made a significant net gain in state legislative chambers throughout the whole country. That has never happened for the president's party in any midterm election before since FDR and the Democrats in 1934 (88 years ago).

Moreover, the Democrats successfully kept all of their state level secretary of state seats and state level attorney general seats in every battleground state for presidential elections, which will help save the 2024 presidential election from being stolen by the GOP.

The democrats just need to wave a gay flag, burp and fart out some progressive terms for the children, and then ultimately appeal to all the rational adults by having mildly left policy.

Oh and bribe the media to throw Bernie Sanders under the bus again.
