Elon Musk Twitter Trainwreck Mega-Thread

548 posts in this topic

Since it's obvious that Musk's radical restructuring of Twitter will lead to months of questions and drama, we should consolidate all of it into a single Mega-Thread.

So here we go!

Post all Musk Twitter news here.

Keep this civil. Don't attack each other.

It’s not a train wreck. In the long run Twitter will be better. Activists at Twitter were damaging it by artistically crushing posts and stories they didn’t like which could have gotten more views, and they were wasting huge amounts of money supervising everything (elon said he feels like there are 10 supervisors they were paying for every programmer). Advertisers are being pressured to pull out now, but Elon will slim down Twitter making it cheaper to run and open it up for more discussion. This will get more eyeballs on it and make it more appealing to advertisers in the long run.

His verification plan can also work, if only 39 percent of active twitter users buy the 8 dollar a month verification, it alone will cover all of twitters operating expenses.

Saw this one coming, not surprising given that twitter has historically not been a profitable company.

Lol. Please.

Twitter costs Musk $1B/yr to operate just thanks to the massive loans he took out to buy it. No amount subscriptions will cover $1B/yr. And no one is going to pay for his subscription. That subscription is pointless.

I predict that Musk will piss off at least half the influencers on Twitter and cause them to flee. Also at leaat half the advertizers will flee because there will be so much toxic hate speech, racism, sexism, homophobia, nazism, transphobia, and porn.

In the end Musk will make less profit than old Twitter.

My bad I misread the operating costs, I agree the subscription won’t cover it alone, but it can take a dent into it. He’s also firing so many people to reduce the costs.

Advertisers go where the eye balls are, whoever avoids Twitter is just helping the competition who doesn’t by driving the advertising costs down. YouTube had a similar controversy but now they’ve started putting advertisements on controversial videos again, but just not paying the creators.

Influencers love attention above all else, they won’t leave in any meaningful way. He can also attract influencers who were banned elsewhere like Andrew Tate or Sneako.

Porn is already on Twitter, because it gets them more clicks and more attention, and thus more $$$.

YouTube is extremely responsible and vigilant about hate speech. Musk is the opposite.

YouTube loses money, their moderation has severely damaged their platform. They had great massively popular channels like JCS which they destroyed by constantly removing their videos and monetization. They also shadow ban or ban creators like Leafyishere or Andrew Tate who brought in tens of millions of views for “moderation”, or because they personally don’t like them, at the cost of profits. (There was a leaked email where they specifically said they wanted to curb leafyishere’s growth for example). That’s just not how to run a company if you want to make money. They are only surviving because they are owned by google who can eat the loss.

Elon can also eat a loss from Twitter, he just cares more about profits.

Will it badly damage Musk's reputation?

Ahem!....... *cough cough*.... Yess!

Musk's reputation in the toilet = huge costs for his businesses. Losses coming.

No idea what he saw in this.

Political victory? Moral victory? Financial victory?

Leafyishere deliberately bullied and harassed people and Andrew Tate is Andrew Tate.

Youtube is not losing money.

Majority of people who uses Google services uses Youtube.

Therefore Youtube advertising is very lucrative and makes them a tonne of profit

Since you as a user is basically free for them. Plus, they know everything about you with their algorithms.

Or, they could deliberately push hate-speech to make free speech sound like a bad thing. To censor people further so that in future agendas, more NPCs will oppose free speech. And they can silence legitimate dissent that way.

Twitter was already pretty bad with the censorship.

It's very obviously $8 p/month, not $19.99.
