Comedy and its affects on mental health

7 posts in this topic

In what ways has consuming comedy affected your mental health/life? I have been taking improv comedy classes and I think its had a massively positive effect on my life.

  • It allows me to meet new people
  • Channels creativity and makes me accept situations as they are(non denial)
  • Eased my fear of public speaking
  • Created confidence in my ability to think on my feet

How has watching or doing comedy benefited your life??

I love it, animated or not, it gives me relief when I'm stressed or sad. I need a good laugh once in a while ^_^

Laughter is the best medicine

Set the intention to heal, and you will heal...

This helped me, enjoy:

A clown can call out a kings bullshit, because he is not being taken serious. I used to be the clown in my high school years, it was funny but in the end i often felt shallow and sad.
But i guess as long as u can maintain a healty balance it is very freeing and healthy. :)

This phenomena has been known for a long time.

I think it depends on why you are cracking jokes and the manner in which you did it. If everyone was always serious life would be lackluster but being a clown all the time is shallow.

Sometimes I feel at my best when cracking jokes.

Comedy and a sense of humor is one of the best tools you could have in life to help take things lightly and create enjoyment where it might not be clear. Being serious too often will bring you to an early grave.

I work in emergency services and comedy and dark humor can be helpful for twisting bleak things around, if just for a moment.
