Daniel Schmachtenburger, on energy podcast, part 3, shots fired.

41 posts in this topic

Really worth the watch, and the prior two videos for the concepts of this video:

And a bonus point, a cheeky attack on the reliability of psychedelics and how it integrates with spirituality. Clearly not a shots fired:D

Thoughts and feelings comment down below.

Calling it a cheeky attack is kind of misleading for those that will not actually take the time and watch the whole thing. All Schmachtenberger was saying is that it's kind of unearned insight and thus doesn't necessarily make one a more whole or wise person. He has spoken very positively about psychedelics in the past and this was not an attack on the reliability or legitimacy of psychedelic insight at all.

The only reason I'm so nosy about this is, that some people here still don't take him seriously and dismiss any possibility of him having legitimate deep spiritual insight.

C'mon, bro. You have to take into account, you know, Leo's latest mission and teaching? trying to combine psychedelics and spirituality? Yeah?

Okay, yes he has talked about them positively. Cheeky attack was too strong of a word. I'll settle for cheeky then^_^

Whatever problems you have with the reliability of psychedelics, the reliability of your sober state is 100x worse.

Whatever dangers exists within spirituality pursued via psychedelics, all those dangers exist 100 fold within spirituality pursued without psychedelics.

We've had 2000 years of spirituality without psychedelics. And look where it's gotten us.

P.S. Be careful with taking Nate's doom porn too seriously.

He literally called them "profound tools." Schmachtenberger is obviously not interested in getting people to "infinite consciousness", so of course psychedelics won't be as important to his work, as they are to yours. Also why are you calling it doom porn, when literally half of the episode was about why they are optimistic and that they are just acting from a place of loving Life so much, that it's worth it to protect it?

And I got no problem with that. I know he understands their power.

I wasn't really speaking to him, I was speaking to people here who are misunderstanding what he said.

Actually I think he is. And I got no problem with him.

Nate's whole channel is doom porn in a sense.

The human race is not going extinct. This is absurd to worry about.

The problem is that people who take his channel too seriously are going to become paranoid about nothing.

Obviously has some degree of spiritual insight. That was never in question.

The question is, what degree?

I'm still a little worried xD It's mainly about cutting our losses and avoiding overly dystopic futures, and I think this is a legitimate worry.

Is it relevant though? Probably not to the degree that you have, but you're really one of a kind xD

Hmm I don't recall him ever suggesting that humans will go extinct. I thought he proposes that there will be a rapid reduction in our standards of living due to resource scarcity, over consumption and the implications of climate change.

Beware of ungrounded new agey optimism also.

@Leo Gura You have made an episode years ago about setting proper expectations. It's a concept that I have really liked and I think it applies here. One should be ready for less energy-rich future when planning one's life purpose.

Predictions like those made by Nate's guests help to uncover areas that will probably cause a lot of suffering to various living beings in the future, so one can train skills relevant to those areas beforehand. The earlier, the better, look at Schamchtenberger, in this episode he says he started his development in this direction as a kid/teenager and look who he has become.

All their predictions are suspect because they cannot predict what technology will be developed in the next 50 years.

Making predictions that far out is a fool's errand.

Seriously have to explain something so simple? Where were you the last 4 years, not watching Leo's content?

I may be a bit mean to him, and certainly he has good and positive takes on psychedelics and other topics covered in the video, but I think despite his stage yellow development, he's not really getting why psychedelics are not only crucial but very important for the evolution of the domain of spirituality. Consider the increasing ADD that social media has done to a good chunk of Zoomers, do you honestly think the baby generation can do serious traditional spiritual practices? Do I have to hit you with other mental health issues they starting to crop up and from suffer that prevent them from doing traditional spirituality properly? There you go, psychedelics is not only the new way for future truth seekers, but an easy preview of what you will get later, easy motivation starter, These stage yellow systems thinkers are concerned for technology degrading mental health are other domains of human life, but overlook the rather simple solution to that? Maybe regulating and mandating psychedelics? Maybe psychedelic assisted therapy? Maybe psychedelic schooling? No? Okay. I mean not to throw shade on Daniel, I mean

Wow, I had a feeling I was getting the Adayia Shanti Kali Yuga doomer vibes, but I wasn't as focused on Nate in this discussion but on Daniel. Thanks for confirming my intuition.:D

That's part of their equation. Industrial revolutions are the exact reasons why  we spend a ton of more energy now, than what we did before.  Whatever tech will be developed will require a lot of money to buy it and it will require a lot of energy to mass produce it. Can't really dodge the energy problem part and the lack of resources part. The transition from nonrenewable energy to 100% renewable energy will be rough on the economy.

Even if we assume, that we can transition without a major economic problem, you still have to assume, that you can keep up with the constant exponential need for energy.

There is unlimited energy on this planet. The only question is how to grab it.

Fundamentally, worrying about energy is silly.
