The Thematic Hierarchy, Spiral Dynamics and MBTI

88 posts in this topic

I've constructed a vertical typology model which mirrors spiral dynamics but goes beyond it.

Each stage has a theme resembling a cognitive function. Any type can be at any level but Ns may be more likely to ascend the hierarchy.

The levels are as follows:

Thematic - SD - MBTI

Appearance - Red - Se

Convention - Blue - Si

Success - Orange - Te

Learning - Orange - Ti

Progressive - Green - Fe

Introspective - Green - Fi

Experimental - Yellow - Ne

Universal - Turquoise - Ni

The Now - Coral - Se

Extraction - Si

Mission - Te

Axiom - Ti

Fe

Fi

Ne

Ni

Huh?

It's the equivalent of spiral dynamics, just with different names.

There's a lot of info in it.

It clarifies the primary theme of each spiral dynamics stage.

It divides Orange and Green into 2 stages each.

It maps out levels above Turquoise.

It shows which cognitive function best resembles each stage.

I don't know what I'm supposed to get out of those words other than some vague association.

It would be better to name the stages by my words than naming them by colour. Colour is empty of even vague association.

Development isn't just reaching new levels: it's overcoming lower levels.

One with wisdom can see through Appearance. Think Plato's analogy of the cave. The sage sees through Convention and lives his own way.

No, because you know what the stages mean and which stages the colors refer to, and the colors are great visual tools with their own systematic logic behind them. For example, hot colors are individualistic, and cold colors are collectivist. So that's that, however, my point is that unless you're somehow revisioning the entire model, I don't know what the themes are supposed to tell me other than what I already know about the model. Sure, some MBTI functions could have some vague association with the general spirit of each stage more so than the others, but again, it's pretty god damn vague (unless you want to elaborate on that).

The hot and cold colours argument makes little sense because Orange and Green should be split into 2 levels each.

The cognitive function associations tell you what you need to know about connections between levels.

Why?

What does it tell me? Can you give an example?

The start of Green is collectivist because it's Fe. The next stage is introspective but still Green.

Orange's Success orientation can be seen as collectivist because it's success in the eyes of society.

So a better way to phrase it would be Directive (Pi+Je) or Adaptive (Pe+Ji).

True development is about experiencing and integrating prior stages as you go.

There is nothing to overcome.

Sure the stages are experienced and integrated, but they're still overcome.

Spiritual practice is a great way to ascend the hierarchy.

Nah, I don't think it's helpful to assign mbti to this stuff. It's more about the individual.

I've seen douchebags of all types here.

Plus we need plenty of personalities of different types to keep things running.

I'm not assigning types to stages. Any type can be at any stage.

The THEME of the stage RESEMBLES a cognitive function.

One also may tend to develop that cognitive function when in that stage.

This model is better than Spiral Dynamics. It's clearer and goes further out.

And no, I'm not going to build descriptions for the stages. Use your fucking imagination (and more importantly, use truth-seeing abilities).

I think this is fascinating and adds extra dimensionality to spiral dynamics and hierarchical models.
