what's most effective practice to develop positive thinking ? 

and is positive thinking worth it or it's just feel good emotions?

I've had this book recommended for positive self-talk. It's not merely "positive" in the sense of optimistic, but also supportive and constructive:

When your bored instead of letting your mind wonder randomly let your mind fantasise and visualise about a future image of yourself as how you want you want to be in the future. If you can make it a reoccurring habit it can heavily influence your subconscious and you can start attracting it. Also it may not feel like it does anything but every choice you make to think a certain thought or to re-theme or re-orient things in a positive light does have an effect deep in your mind each time
