Criteria to claim something exists

What criteria must be met in your mind in order for you to claim that something exists or doesn’t exist? 
Or what is the fundamental difference in your mind between existing and not existing?

Everything exists. Even nothing exists (that's the point from which you, me, etc. views the somethings).

It's as simple as that. Srs. Existing is the commonality between all... a conscious animal, qualitative experiences, dreams, chemicals, protons... The commonality is existing.

I guess it's possible some things don't right now exist (we can't conceive of what that might be), but they COULD. But that part is a theory...

thus consciousness is a subset of existence, everything

is nothing part of existence, everything?

yes ... nothing is just what i can't be conscious of

in summary, existence, everything = consciousness + nothing

There is no reason to confine yourself to one absolute definition of anything. You just have to learn to think using caveats, e.g. "according to this framework of thought and this set of definitions, one can postulate (...)"
