Macron defeats the French right-wing extremist presidential candidate!

Bonnes nouvelles!

French President Macron just won re-election in France, which of course is great for the country because he was able stave off a looming take over of the country from the French right wing authoritarianism. He also became the first French president in 20 years to ever win re-election.

That's definitely a relief. I'm not super enthusiastic about Macron personally, but he is easily preferable to Le Pen.

If you know spiral dynamics, you could have predicted his victory. Just so you know, he's no darling of progressive politics. He does seem quite charismatic however.

She wasn’t an extremist. She won 42% of the votes.

You understand that any mystery is only what you yourself have created. In fact, there’s no mystery. Everything is as clear as day. It’s simple, because there really isn’t anything. There’s only the story appearing now. And not even that.” — Byron Katie

@Leo Gura If Ramaji and don beck supported trump, surely he isn’t as bad as you’ve made him out to be.

Even though she won that many votes she was proud far right politician. Her party is literally far right: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Rally Also she has had a widespread reputation of promoting extreme right wing policies.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_French_presidential_election#Results

the US media is ignoring the fact that in third place was a Marxist socialist candidate. If the communist party, socialist party, and Green Party candidates dropped out and endorsed him, he could have won as well.

Also, interestingly Le Pen’s support was more from young people, it was the older folk who lead Macron to victory.

It seems western countries are moving towards elections between far right and far left candidates, as the older people who vote for center or neoliberal candidates die out.

Regarding this "extremist" talk, I have been running into similar debates with friends and family about what it means to be "far-right" or as we say in France "extreme-right".

My issue is not in labeling these candidates "far-right" or "extreme" but it comes when their ideas are systematically dismissed and left unchallenged just using "far-right" and "extreme" labels.

For instance a recent poll in France suggests that a majority of French people believe the "Great Replacement" (replacement of native population in the country by foreign population) is real and happening. This idea often gets labeled as "far-right" which is correct both in the origin of the term and in the perspective of the world it implies. However most people then make the jump that because it is far-right it is wrong or it needs no further debunking.

Has anyone found a good way to explain that even though an idea is easy to correctly label as far-right, this can actually be detrimental rather than useful in combatting the idea ? Especially when there is something "true" enough about it that a majority of people would actually agree with it ?

The French seem to have given up. At least they’re consistent I suppose.

France really needs to get its mass migration issue under control, it really disrupts the cohesion of society to import so many people from lesser developed regions of the world who have their own value systems and don’t integrate. They literally decapitated a teacher for drawing the prophet Muhammad.

Or maybe Ramaji and Don Beck are not as great as you make them out to be ;)

Boomers gonna boom.

Trump is the ultimate litmus test of one's character. If you can't see the profound flaws in Trump's character and that these character flaws are a complete deal-breaker in a President, you are seriously lost. You are deciding to place a literal con-artist, narcissist, sociopath into the most powerful position in the world, simply because he is on your side of the political spectrum and promises to own the libs. This is crazy and it will never align with spirituality, consciousness, truth, or love.

The false equivalency created between Trump vs normal politicians is madness. There is no equivalence. Trump is an order of magnitude worse than any normal politician regardless of left or right. This is not a left or right issue, this is a matter of character and integrity. A human being of such low integrity is incapable of leading a country to anything healthy and conscious. What you will get from Trump is gross dysfunction and corruption. Nothing will change this. And if he gets powers again it will be way worse than the 1st time because he will be unleashed and out for revenge with nothing to lose.

What I find even more hilarious is how he ended up such a strong republican after wanting to run as a democrat some years before xD

If your ideals include consistency of beliefs over time he is the worst president in history lol.

@Leo Gura If you’re talking about Trump’s dishonesty, then that would equally apply to all politicians.

No it does not. That's what you're missing. It's an order of magnitude deeper.

Most politicians lie a bit here and there -- this is part of the job. That's not the issue. We have always dealt with that and survived it. Trump's lies are on another level. It's the difference between getting bit by a house cat vs a lion. And Trump doesn't just lie, he creates a field of corruption that infects the government and half the country into being liars. It's so toxic. Trump is a radioactive liar.

All politicians throughout history have been known as being corrupt and manipulative to varying degrees. However, I believe that Trump has been one of if not very first political leader of any 1st first world country to be recognized widely by numerous mental health experts around the world as being a malignant narcissist or narcissistic psychopath.

My mom is a retired mental health occupational therapist with a PhD for that specific field and worked with all kinds of in patients will various moderate to severe levels of psych disorders. She also knew a lot about him having been born, raised and lived in the heart of New York City for decades and even met him in a couple of times because how socially connected her ex husband was to people like him. She said that in her opinion, Trump has been the only US president in all of history who needs to be seriously institutionalized, medicated for bipolar or hypomania, and go through extremely intense psychotherapy. Of course she gets that he would never do any work on his mental health or soul at all because of his extreme ego, pride, and laziness.

I highly doubt he is bipolar. He's not that bad.

He's just extremely egotistical and shallow.
