Define "natural". Most nootropics are hyper-concentrated plant extracts in a lab created through a complex chemical process, they have no resemblance to the original plant. You could say that the only difference between 99% of nootropics on the market and medical drugs is that the latter requires a rigorous approval process through several clinical trials and FDA approval where nootropics are completely unregulated and mostly based on mechanistic speculation or some rat studies (or limited amount of human data). There no standards on quality, no testing standards, no excipient regulation, no dosage regulations. You can put chalk in your Lion's Mane supplement and nobody would find out. The only determinant with nootropics is that they must cause no harm. Compare this to the determinant for medical drugs which have to be clinically proven to work and to reduce the occurrence of a disease in a study population. Imagine handing people with fucked up arteries Chaga extract and just kinda hoping they'll make it through and not die within next 3 months. We simply can't afford to do that, despite all the devilry pharmacology is saving lives of people who are a at the level of consciousness where they can't or don't want to or don't know about more holistic solutions. To someone with double bypass statins, blood thinners and calcium channel blockers will add 15 years of lifespan, now for a someone who would rather die than to start exercising that's as close as you can get to miracle.

Nootropics are definitely a step forward from traditional pharmacology thou but they are not natural that's for sure. Hopefully with time, more funding and more human data pharmaceutical industry will show more interest in these products but for now, nootropics are mostly not reliable. We need the money, the expertise and the technology of the big pharma to understand what dosage works and how to extract them to make them more powerful, the small amount of academic research would take hundred years to find out on its own. The only ones that are powerful are the ones regulated by the pharma industry such as Modafinil. It's not a coincidence that it is powerful as hell

Not defending the pharmaceutical industry, they are greedy fucking devils but when it comes to standardisation, research and quality testing you cant get better than that.

I am interested in one natural nootropic that is more expensive than many drugs: lionsmane mushrooms. They promote neurogenesis, memory access, and taste like milk chocolate in smoothies.

(I don't think I answered your question, though!)
