It is past time we reach a verdict on Terrence McKenna's -Stoned Ape Theory-. Is it worthy of serious consideration??

Anyone who has an opinion on this will already know what the "stoned ape theory" is, so I won't explain it.

Is it bogus?

Is it plausible?

I must know! The world must know!

p.s. This thread is totally just for fun. Share your thoughts!

He's probably right that our ancestors ate those mushrooms, but they probably didn't have (nearly) as strong an impact on our evolution as he thought.

By the way, it's a hypothesis, not a theory. People always get that mixed up.

They believe in influenced a lot of caveman art, and that some of these substances might have been used when chewing dyes to make the paint.

I believe it, we were taught about this in art history when I was in college.this-day-in-history-09121940---cave-pain

@Loba

Cave art is super amazing! It's cool you got to study that in collage.

Is there any speculation on what specific substances they were using?

@BenG I can't remember, I have the book in storage - the one we studied was: How art made the world by Nigel Spivey and it went into detail on the stoned ape theory, as well as how they used hallucinogens in the paint, and would spit it out into a blow dart like device for some of them like this here:

A silly theory born of wishful hippie thinking.

I can hear the echoes of the voices who would say that of your own psychedelic journeys.

Although, it would be some ironic symmetry if it was hallucinogens that contributed to gaining psychological realization of self in our mind and it is hallucinogens that contributes to the naught self of mind.

I see no similarity.

Terence McKenna had some dumb theories about 2012 that have proven false.
