Desire is the basis of creation

12 posts in this topic

Absolutely everything in this world is done because of desire.

Especially reading this post right now. That is your desire.

Anybody that claims they have no desires is unconscious to a certain degree in my opinion.

If a person truly had no desires they wouldn't do anything. They wouldn't move their body AT ALL. They wouldn't eat. They certainly wouldn't open their mouth to tell people they don't have desires.

Even if they managed to not move that would also be their desire. Because not desiring anything is also one's desire. One's desire to do nothing essentially. Non action is a form of action. No desire is a form of desire.

And the basis of desire (or love) is... nothing i.e. blindly, itself (love/desire). There is nothing with any basis — the ultimate basis is nothing, so there is no real basis or context.

That this was or is created, is one such imaginary context; meaning; limit on the unimaginable boundlessness that is everything and nothing.

@WokeBloke There is desire which is part of the separate selfs longing to feel whole. It's based in the belief that it lacks something and needs something to be happy or at peace.

Then there's the effortless wanting. Like for example when one is thirsty and goes to fetch some water. You just go into the kitchen and drink some water, there was never any lack because there was never any belief that it wasn't yours already. Just effortless happening.

Any desire based on lack is to be surrendered because it's based in separation.

@WelcometoReality Isnt desire to drink water based on lack cause you feel thirsty so you lack water in your organism?

Yes, probably so but that is not the lack I'm trying to convey. With desire comes unhappiness and believing that you will become happy once you get what you desire but once desire is let go of the happiness is already there. So desire is the illusion of lacking something and believing it causes unhappiness.

This is only certain desires. Not all desires are problematic. If you restrict yourself from water you will start to feel very bad and then you will see that desire for water is simply a desire. As you mentioned it can easily be fulfilled so its no issue. The problem is the desires that are hard to fulfill or the ones that cause suffering for others.

Imagine that you are working on an enormous painting. It's finished, really, it's everything you dreamed and more. But you keep getting struck with inspiration, a shadow here, a gleam of light here, a tiny detail here. Each idea and the implementation of it thrills you. The "finished" painting is never finished, always becoming more, more, more.

That's what life is like. You... this... is already a fucking unexplainably beautiful masterpiece. The best part is that it's still and always, infinitely becoming.

Yes beautifully put. The creation can always be enhanced! The destination is a mirage.

Thirst is a feeling in the body so that "desire" is based on something real. If the desire is based on a separate self that have to move in time to get to a goal then that desire is based in illusion (thought).

desire is the assertion this here isn't perfect

Or the result of someone trying to enhance life. Creation would never be improved without desire.

How does one determine what desires improve life and which doesn't? Are there good and bad desires?
