German car park unveils 'diversity' spaces reserved for LGBT drivers or migrants

8 posts in this topic

Hanauer Parkhaus GmbH (HPG) built three 'diversity' parking spaces in an underground car park

City councillor Thomas Morlock said they will help people who feel 'a special need for protection'

A camera will monitor the use of the car park, although Morlock said the spaces are not necessarily reserved for 'a separate group of people'

I don't know how to feel about this.

Isn't this gonna make easier for people who hate lgbt to harrass them ?

Sure there are cameras, but I don't know if that's enough, since you can wait outside to memorize who is lgbt or not etc.

This is misinformation.

These parking lots aren't exclusively reserved for LGBTQ. It's meant to be symbolic.

The problem was bad reporting by the BILD (rather a right/conservative tabloid than a serious news paper), making it look like they were only for LGBTQ and immigrants.

Interview with Thomas Morlock (I translated it to English for you guys)

Quote

Does it actually cost less to park in a diversity parking lot?

No, nothing changes at all. There is ultimately just a rainbow banner painted on the wall. Otherwise, of course, the parking spaces are for everyone, they're not reserved parking spaces. That's a false tongue that was brought in by the report in the BILD newspaper. The headline suggested that the parking spaces are only for certain people such as migrants. That doesn't appear in our press release in a single word.

So would you park there too?

Yes, it's a parking lot like any other.

Will there be more diversity parking in Hanau?

No, that's not intended now, that was an action with which we wanted to make it clear that Hanau is a cosmopolitan city.

Hanau didn't have CDS last year, so they thought about either painting a crosswalk in rainbow colors or the parking lot.

Also, last year, 9 immigrants were killed in Hanau by right wing terrorists. That's why it's also meant to be symbolic for them.

All's fair in love, war and car parking.

At least that's how I feel when trying to park sometimes :(

Now LGBTQ people can get better parking spaces & the straights are losing their mind

A German firm that manages parking structures in the city of Hanau has stirred online controversy after announcing they will dedicate some of their prime parking spaces for LGBTQ people and migrants.
