Jordan Peterson: Why it's SO Hard to Sit Down and Study/Work

37 posts in this topic

@Leo Gura Isn't it ironic, that having a life purphose and working hard towards it, is supposed to be this attractive thing, but actually, if you work too hard and long, you become less relatable, and practically less dateable? Like, it's supposed to be this big aid to your life, but once you take it too seriously, you're gonna end up sacrificing your entire social life.

Most people take things pretty cassually at the end of the day, so just going out seems to be enough in that life area.

Of course. But I was not only talking about sex.

The entire relationship will consume you, especially as you get real serious about it.

Note: I am not saying you shouldn't do relationships. I am just saying, do you understand the costs? I do enjoy deep relationships, so don't misunderstand me.

I agree,  having a relationship takes up your time and it requires your effort into that relationship, it definetly stands in the way for success, atleast 9/10, it is a sacrifice to be in a relationship, but it also is awesome to be in a relationship with a person who is very self concious.

But I think that you wouldn't be where you are today if you got commited into a relationship instead.

But I am indeed happy that you chose the path that you did bro! Actualized.org would probably don't exist

What I said mostly applies to the critical phase between 16-30 years old where the foundation for the rest of your life is forged. Once your foundation is forged you can afford more to do relationships and take life easier. At least that's how it worked for me.

But most people will not follow my path. There were definitely costs to doing it the way I did it. Most people would not be happy paying those costs. There are trade-off whichever route you take. So don't get the silly idea that there is one right way here. There are dozens of ways.

I’m 23, sort of holding out on dating to work on career (after neglecting career for too long), though I never had success with women. I really wasted a lot of time in unfruitful spirituality, tbh

part of me thinks dating is better when you are younger for biological reasons, so I feel like it’s sort of a shame.

it might also be that dating doesn’t really matter, though. I mean, it’s sort of icing on the cake, probably shouldn’t be your biggest regret if you miss out on it a bit.

I prefer to abstain from porn, but masturbation is good. I don’t like how porn desensitizes you to pretty women who aren’t 11/10’s. Other than that so have nothing against it.

Yes, but we are not living in a Theocracy here like in Iran or Saudi Arabia. It's more a Eastern Europe stage blue style. Everyone talks about morals, no one cares about them in practice

@Knowledge Hoarder it's Blue as a mean, but beware of means, as they don't tell you anything about the spread of the data points combined into it.

@Leo Gura Leo, some time ago I asked you a question about the stage orange self-help stuff you did to become so successful. And I asked which changes resulted in the most powerful or best results. Could you tell me a little about it, maybe just giving me pointers? Understanding how to lay my foundations in life means a lot to me, and could be useful to other people.

  • Radically changing my diet, cutting out junk food
  • Gym, exercise, losing weight
  • Pickup, learning how to attract women, learning to socialize, developing a sense of humor
  • Starting a biz, becoming financially independent. Learning marketing and sales.
  • Figuring out my life purpose
  • Reading basic self-help books and taking basic self-help and business/marketing courses
  • Education in science, history, philosophy, psychology, etc.

The core pillars for my Orange were:

Biz, pickup, gym, nutrition, education

Success in all the above will create a solid foundation for a good life.

Ffs, the basics of life are already a massive challenge. And this doesn’t even include any life purpose or spiritual work.

At the same time, there’s nothing else better to do but be on the path.

Lol this is all easy as fuck

Just will take some time and motions, there is nothing extraordinary except for life purpose maybe

Compare all above to things like Enlightenment, Creativity, Innovation, Attaining Siddhis, Building a big conscious community, Building a high consciousness marriage (pickup is peanuts compares to this), Building a multi billion business, Becoming a popular conscious politician, Starting a new country, religion or philosophical school

These are like 100-1000x more harder than some better dieting or picking up some chicks, just to put things into a perspective

@Dryas Focus on one thing at a time and really get it down. Once you start to get one area of your life down it starts to spill into the other areas. Money and health are both critical to focus on in my opinion first. Hard to do much else if you don't have your health or money. Ideally if you can figure out your life purpose earlier you can focus on getting your money through that too.
