Is hair loss a sign of stress?

11 posts in this topic

I'm only 25 and I'm starting to notice that my hair is starting to fall out when I'm in the shower, a lot more than usual. I'm also clearly starting to see my scalp in the mirror when its directly under a light.

Is this just a phase or condition? Or is hair loss just common for men entering their mid-twenties?

I try not to be rough on my hair when applying shampoo, and I switched to a natural shampoo not too long ago.. Could that be it? Maybe there was some sort of chemical in the unnatural shampoos that strengthened my hair and kept my hair in place.

I've also been engaging in work that could be causing me stress and so I wonder if stress plays a role in it too.

Thoughts?

Does early  hair  loss  run in your family? I  imagine stress  could be a  very real factor. See a specialist and see what they think. It  could  very well be  correctable and  i hope  it  is!!

@7thLetter Yes, many men lose their hair do to genetics and not much can be done.. but, dermatologist's specialize in skin, nails and hair loss. So, best to see one to determine if anything can be done in your situation.

Good luck.

It is, as well as genetics. I am currently doing a PRP-treatment for this and it seems to help. I also take medicine for it.

@7thLetter did you have a lot of acne growing up? If so could be a sign of high DHT levels (I had the same and lost a lot of hair I my teens).

As other said - deficiencies especially iron. Don't supplement unless you get it checked thou, that could be dangerous.

Gut problems as mentioned above is a big one especially things like undiagnosed coaliac

Chronic stress might be as well. Some medication you're taking possibly/.

Yes I did, on my face, back, & arms.

Acne always seemed to appear after I consumed dairy products so ever since I found out about that I gave up on the dairy.

I've been thinking about this lately, maybe this is it.

Lately I've been taking zinc supplements along with my daily multi-vitamin, which might be quite excessive because the multi-vitamin contains 10 mg zinc and the zinc supplement contains about 30-50 mg zinc. Google says the recommended amount of zinc for men is only 11 mg. And I mention this because I read that excess amounts of zinc inhibits iron uptake..

So, I'm going to stick with the multi-vitamin only for now.

Stress levels definetly affect hair loss. I think its because it raises cortisol and makes testosterone convert to dht.

Nascent Iodine (not potassium iodide) is good for hair. That's why japanese people say to eat seaweed for good hair.

Google zix formula, it's a topical you can make yourself consisting of zinc sulfate and p5p (a b vitamin) in alcohol and water. Reduces dht in the scalp.

Not really stress. It is a point of view inside, too much light, too much right side of the body, too much mind.

So in conclusion that energy from the head has to be grounded in the heart. Otherwise it goes below belly directly and different conditions happen.

Might be you'd benefit from some gut work. WHat's the general state of your digestion (intolerances? pains? bloating? burping? etc)

I think you'd benefit from getting some basic blood work. Request a test called Full Blood Count including Ferritin, Vitamin D and B12. See if anything comes up
